Valdi didn't know it at the time, but he had definitely chosen the wrong day to check out his brother's work.
Class always finished early on Wednesdays, which also happened to be the day his two latest reads ran overdue at the Book Alley...and it was really, really hot.
Not at all used to the unforgiving weather, Valdi had initially taken refuge in the bookshop itself, and then the Coffee Shoppe next door. He'd then spent a good ten minutes loitering in front of the counter display like a starved puppy before awkwardly admitting that he'd left his money at home (or rather, didn't have any) and returning to his seat.
With no water and no change, the Icelander was mentally preparing himself to battle heat stroke on the long walk home when something caught his eye.
Madame Maime's Miracles. Didn't Sindre work there?
Without a second thought Valdi hopped off his stool, crossed the square and let himself into the mystic shop, the little bell chiming above the door as he entered.
It felt like stepping into another world...the whole room was thick with incense and he'd hardly seen let alone could recognize most of the stuff that adorned the shelves and walls.
His attention went from the employee (cleaning?) on the floor, to the walls again, and then finally to Sindre, who appeared to be talking to the air.
Valdi assumed he was conversing with one of the 'nisse' he believed inhabited the shop. The younger boy simple just went along with it.
