I woke up today to find out that the 2011 Pokemon Video Game Championships and Trading Card Game Championships have been cancelled in Japan.
I'm not going to lie when I say I'm pretty bummed about this news. However... I'm not an idiot, and I know there are far more important things that Japan has to worry about right now than Pokemon. Granted, there's only a small chance that this would affect the Video Game Championships here in the United States and Europe, but that's not really the point. Even if the Championships were to move on without Japan this year, it just won't feel the same without Japan's participation. Being able to meet and interact with the Japanese Pokemon fans is one of the biggest reasons why the Video Game Championships are so awesome, and I find it hard to get all that motivated anymore knowing that half the competition won't even be participating.
Once again, I fully understand the situation that Japan is in right now, so I'd like to hope that you don't see this post as selfish or insensitive. I've donated as much as I could to various companies that are sending their sales to Japan, and that's all I really can do at this point. Life moves on, and I can't spend every waking minute worrying about Japan.
Think I need to take a break from Pokemon anyways, and now would be a pretty good time to do so. I got a huge backlog piling up thanks to Pokemon, and I need some time to play through those quality games that have come out (especially Ar Tonelico 3). If TPCi does announce that they will go on with the VGC this year, then that's when I'll probably jump back into the game out of excitement.
