“I’ve done this twice before.” Gordon smiled bitterly.
“You know I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. I’m a different man now.” Peter was almost businesslike as he collected his clothes and dressed himself carefully, tying a neat Windsor knot and brushing dust from the elbow of his jacket. He glanced out of the window. “You’ll have to go before sundown. I don’t want such... such a great man scampering away in the dark. You need to leave with your head held high. I’ll call for Alastair and Douglas to help with the statement-”
“Peter.” Gordon said as the other man made to leave. “Stop. Not yet.” Peter paused, one hand on the door, and walked slowly back to Gordon, kneeling before him. “These years have been so hectic. I’ve never stopped to reflect.” Peter chuckled.
“That’s because there’s so much to do. Why? What were you going to say?”
“We could have done so much more, Peter. You, me, Tony. We could have revolutionised this country. Social mobility. Opportunities for the many, not the few. A thriving real economy. But we didn’t. We were always... fighting. Sometimes I would veto a perfectly good proposal for the sake of fucking Tony’s plans and wiping the smug smile from his face. I ruined you because I was bitter over having lost you.”
“There’s more than that. Bush. The crash. Scandal”
“Fuck them. We couldn’t have done anything about all that. Look at us.” He laughed coldly, throwing his hands up in the air, “We’re all that’s left of a movement that could have changed the world. It’s just us.” Peter bit his lip and rested his head on Gordon’s knee, letting him stroke his hair with uncharacteristic tenderness.
“There’s nothing left now. It’s the end.”

I love the wistful, sad atmosphere towards the end and the rage of the beginning. And Peter being so collected throughout the whole thing and slips back into his professional self when it's all done.
Mmm wish I could write porn this well myself. Thank you so much for filling ♥
