At a spin doctor event, Alastair sees James across a crowded room.
Alastair was recently dumped by Peter because he wouldn't be honest about his bisexuality. When he sees James, it reminds him of another handsome dark-eyed spinner.
He sits down next to James, turns on the charm, and commences getting him drunk. Turns out James's bf DLaws recently left him for a do-gooding, five-language-speaking teacher called Nick. DLaws would never be open about the relationship when he was with James, but as soon as he got together with Nick, he came out to everyone proudly, and is now happy as a clam.
Alastair eats dinner with his hand in an increasingly drunk, down and talkative James's lap. Afterwards Alastair takes him off to the hotel room where he's lived since splitting with Peter. Consensually, he takes James's clothes off, ties him up, gives him a blow job (thinking of Peter), tops him so that James gets very excited but without them coming, then unties him, takes him across his knee and prepares to spank him.
James, feeling bad about the fact that DLaws wouldn't come out for him, says he wants to be told how worthless he is.
Alastair (really thinking of his own relationship with Peter) tells him he's not worthless, he just made some bad decisions.
James doesn't understand what this means, but Alastair spanks him quite a lot and they both come anyway.
