He grew, however, suspicious, when the visits became more and more frequent. For the last two months it had always been the Friday afternoon but over the last few weeks it had first increased to Monday mornings, then Wednesday afternoons and now George and Michael spent every lunch break together as well.
Danny wasn’t one to pry but something was very odd about this, though he didn’t exactly want to know what was going on behind the closed door. And because he didn’t want to know, he busied himself elsewhere until the door was opened again.
Other people weren’t as averse to gossip as Danny and soon there were whispers of different kinds going around the house. Some were afraid of what policies the two of them might be up to and other offered the much bolder conclusion of an affair.
The first one was nonsense, of that Danny was sure but the second option, for him, was as hard to believe. Though when he thought about George’s giggles and the excited exclamations of “yes” or “that’s it”, which were still audible in the next room, Danny wasn’t so sure anymore. Both George and Michael always left with a satisfied smile on their face.
The way he saw it, if George was happy, he would be happy for him too. But he had to address that this was no way to work.
So one day, after George had given an excited shriek when Michael had smiled mysteriously in answer to the question whether he’d bought “the thing we spoke about”, Danny grabbed George’s arm before he could vanish into the other room.
George gave him a confused look and said he’d have urgent business to discuss but also looked a bit worried because of Danny’s behaviour. The tall man was staring at his feet, blushing and then stammering something about two men who like each other and want to spend time together and urging them to “make each other happy” anywhere but the office because he couldn’t continue to pop out every time and his work had suffered enough.
At first George wanted to ask whom Danny was talking about but then it dawned on him that he probably meant Michael and himself.
And then George couldn’t stop laughing for a minute.
“Danny” George made Danny look at him “Michael and I…we’re not doing..that. I mean.. you know what I mean.“ He laughed some more “Well, it’s not like I am not ever doing it or never want to do it with someone“ and here he gave Danny a look that made his mouth fall open for a second “but not.. with Michael” he finished, having another fit of laughter.
“How flattering.” Came Michael’s amused voice from the open door.
“You know how I meant that”, George replied with a smile and they both started laughing again, leaving Danny more confused than before.
He shot a curious glance at both of them and asked in a quiet voice “If you’re not doing..that; then what are you doing?”
George looked at Michael, who nodded and George pulled Danny into his office.

“What..?”
“We’re working on our strategy! They released some new defense cards last week and Michael brought the newest spell card with him, I believe.” He shot a quick look at Michael he looked almost as proud as George, who was beaming at Danny like he’d just explained the formula that unites all scientific theories ever.
“Strategy?” was all Danny managed while he was still trying to make sense of it all.
“Of course! You need a strategy, can’t play without one..not on this level anyway..” George told him while walking around the table and picking up a few of the cards. “We have to be super prepared because the tournament is next week and there is so much to do still!”
“And we can’t lose” Michael added with a voice that was meant to make those words an explanation. “We just can’t.”
“It’s one of the biggest tournaments in the year and you can not only win one of the rarest cards but also earn a lot of points for the rankings!” George was speaking so fast that he forgot to breathe and had to take a breath mid-word when he said earn. Danny chuckled.
Michael looked at him with an earnest face. “We could really use those points because we heard that our.. arch nemesis, if you will, is back.”
Danny wanted to laugh at that, he really did but Michael was so serious and George looked almost angsty that he just raised a questioning eyebrow.

Danny smiled at their enthusiasm. He knew that George could get excited about a new pack of chocolate coins or some orange jam but to see him like this made him become even fonder of his colleague, if that was possible. It also made him look at Michael in a totally different light and he wished he’d have had more time to get to know him better.
“I see”, Danny said after a minute of looking at the cards and the men in front of him. He looked at them a bit mischievously and asked “So.. how does this work exactly?”
That was all the encouragement Michael and George needed. The rest of the day and, in fact, the weekend was spent with the two of them explaining the basic rules to Danny and involving him in test games.
Danny had to admit that he wasn’t as much into the whole thing as the other two but sharing this with them made him feel very warm inside.
He made a mental note to maybe engage in some last minute spying on Michael Moore before the big day. When Sunday evening came and George asked shyly if he’d enjoyed it, Danny smiled at him broadly and declared he’d even come and watch if they wanted.
To which George tackled him with a big surprise hug that made Danny a bit uncomfortable in other ways than he would’ve expected.

A/N: I don't actually have a lot of experience with this kind of game. If anyone would like to write a follow up, they're more than welcome!

So much adorable lulz and awesomeness and d'aww!
O my God, that is so brilliant.
I don't know that game well either but I'm tempted to write a sequel on some other games now.
