Yeah, so I'm updating.
School starts tomorrow. I'm sort of excited, but it brings me more than a little anxiety, especially since I'm taking two out-of-department classes (history & law). I want to kick ass this semester. It's especially important this time, because I won't have an internship to distract me from the work I care about. (Ironic, huh? - since my field placement SHOULD be what I care most about...). I guess I'm just realizing more and more that I want to be be a researcher in the social sciences.
Right now I'm working on an article with my friend Matt about the link between "religiosity" and belief in the paranormal. I'm listed as a co-author, but my main contribution to the paper was in its editing. He designed the study, collected the data, and contributed most of the content. (He knows what he's doing, because he just finished his doctoral program). We still have to write the results and discussion. We're optimistic about getting it published, though rejection rates are pretty high.
Anyway, I now have a copy of SPSS for my computer, so once I understand the stats better and learn to work the program...I can help with data collection and calculations the next go-round. We're hoping to get at least one other paper from this data set. The other profs at Arkansas State want him to do three more studies along the same lines...so we may partner up again for those.
If I can't do research, I'd want to be a therapist. Unfortunately, I can't do either one right out of school.
I really never wanted to be a caseworker. I took the scholarship "for the money." I never felt bad about it until Deanna phrased it that way. But I really shouldn't feel bad. If I live up to my part of the contract and do my job well - then do my motivations for taking the scholarship really matter? If people were chomping at the bit to work at CPS, then they wouldn't have to offer the goddamn scholarship.
I am freaking out a little about school. I procrastinated hardcore about coming back to Austin. I stayed in Houston for about 10 or 11 days. I got to hang out with Jam. It's sort of awesome/disconcerting that her family randomly has a house there that no one lives in.
Danny and I have been talking about him moving in with me in January. We'll see how it goes; it'll mostly depend on his financial situation. At first I thought that it might be too soon. But this relationship has already moved pretty fast and there's no going back. I don't see much point in waiting, because there's no uncertainty to wait out. It'll either work or it won't.
So, that's what's going on with me.
