I went to a geek social with my co-worker Ecogeek. He's a sweet guy and is moving away soon so I was glad to be able to spend some time with him.
Now, for those of you who are not in know (I wasn't), a geek social is a place where various types of geek meet up to eat, drink and geek out together. We got name tags. There were easily 40+ people crowded together in the basement of a pub for this event. I stayed very close to Ecogeek and nodded my head at the appropriate moments in the conversation that was going over my head (Apple vs. Microsoft! Warcraft! Battleship Gallactica!). I did not feel qualified in the least to be there.
The most interesting part of the evening was when the girl that Ecogeek is in an open relationship with assumed him and I were sleeping together. We're not, not even close. Although afterward Ecogeek explained how virtually everyone in the group I was talking to was sleeping with each other. It made me feel incredibly square.
Honestly though, I don't think I'm built for an open relationship though. I'm a jealous, vindictive creature that doesn't necessarily like sharing. As much as I can totally rationalize open relationship my heart wouldn't be able to do. You can look, you can flirt, but if you touch I will claw your face off.
So it goes.
