it's pawpaw season!

Long-time readers may remember that when we first bought this house, one of the first things we did was plant a couple of pawpaw trees, because Andy and I had long been curious about this native American fruit that was supposedly delicious but never found in stores

What do they taste like?

Anywhere from a mango to vanilla custard cream, in my experience. They are variable, but the best are *amazing*.

Banana is the closest flavor comparison, but depending on the individual fruit there are notes of mango, pear, melon, and/or vanilla. The texture is rich and custardy.
