Why NaNo and Perfectionism don't mix; or How my Inner Critic ruins everything.

I'm currently at 16,302, which is exactly 7,031 words away from being on track. I spent the weekend doing more lounging, baking and movie watching than catching up on actual writing. Ugh. Which means my usually busy week will also include a lot of writing. Perhaps I can dedicate Monday and Tuesday to some intense writing sessions.

My biggest problem has been my usual biggest problem with NaNo - a very loose plot and an overly active critic. I've been using Write-or-Die to quiet my critic, but without an organize plot or even character sketches I'm churning out a lot of crap 90% of the time and decent stuff that actually drives the plot forward 10% of the time. I don't care if things are misspelled or written out of character, but if I can't make my characters work my inner critic swoops in and destroys it.

I just read over a few bits of writing this morning and the writing that's rushed just to get words out is often counter productive and off the plot-line. Maybe I need to take an hour today to do a little character building and plot layout so I have something to guide me for the rest of November.

Okay...let's see how that goes.

plot holes, nanowrimo, word count, behind
