It's been sweeping the web since October 12th, but I only saw it today. An episode of Sesame Street featuring a little African-American girl (Muppet) singing about her hair and how she loves it the way it is.

I found it through this
story on NPR.com (a good read really) about a writer on Sesame Street who created it because his adopted daughter was ashamed of her natural hair and wanted "straight, blond" hair in order to feel pretty.
Hair has always been an interesting topic for the Black community. Not to say it isn't an issue others have to deal with (particularly curly haired people - what's up with that?), but from a young age most little black girls believe that their natural hair is inferior to the predominantly popular Eurasian, straight hair. I've been there and I know others who have been there. But after 5 years of being natural (with 6 years of perming and chemicals before that), I don't think I'd ever go back. If I want to have straight hair for fun, I can wear a wig or put braids in.
Anywho...this video really made my day. Sesame Street is doing good things and I wish they'd had something like this around when I was a kid.
