Today was my first day at my first temp job as a "mic runner" at a technology conference.
Now for those of you who don't know what that entails, I made sure the microphone was in front of folks with questions during the Q&A sessions. The most difficult part is waiting until the Q&A sessions, which means sitting through the presentations before it. And those presentations are full of investing jargon. Words like "paradigm", "R&D", "pipeline" and "cloud".
It reminded me of
Dragon's Den but more boring because I couldn't follow half of it. But it's been a good learning experience. I pick up little snippets here and there. Perhaps by the time I'm done, I'll actually understand some of that stuff.
The folks I'm temping with are all really cool. Most are creative types (no surprise there) and one of the girls is interested in working in advertising. Another is a freelance photographer with some amazing experience. So our chats during lunch are pretty helpful and fun. I definitely hope to keep in touch with those gals after the job is done.
As for the rest of my life, I've been getting my Etsy shop together and really hoping to open this week. My revisions on my NaNo '08 novel is coming together and I'm already prepping for NaNo '09. I also have a few other projects that I need to start lest I feel like slacker of the year. All in all I'm keeping my head up.
G'night.
