I thoroughly enjoyed it, personally. Scientifically, it...left a bit to be desired, but I thought it was a fun ride. Since I've only ever really been into TNG, having read Poldy's reviews of TOS was useful since I knew a bit more of what to expect from the characters. Because of the reviews, I kept waiting for Chekhov to claim something was invented by the Russians, but [Spoiler alert?] he didn't do that. I thought the various actors were good at their parts, and I thought the script did a good job of showing the younger versions of the people they were going to grow up to be. They fit into their characters without, I thought, being parodies.
A few things (some of which are spoiler-ish):
-When the green girl says she thinks she loves Kirk, and he says, "That is so weird," is that supposed to be a response to her saying she loves him, or is he talking about something else entirely?
-Two guys in the screening I went to tried to start a round of applause for Leonard Nimoy when he appeared. Epic fail!
-That's not how I would design a drill.
-It does seem a bit odd that Starfleet would ultimately decide to staff the bridge of its flagship with rookies. Uhura and Kirk seemed to (at least sort of) deserve to be there, but maybe some of the others could have been assigned to lesser ships or lesser posts and then spend the next movie getting to the bridge of the Enterprise.
Oh, and last night I had a dream that Kirk and I were friends at Starfleet Academy, and I was trying to sneak out of graduation, which was in my middle school gym. So the movie must at least have affected me on some deeper level.
