Chad, you are in luck. So odd that you'd post about high school english. Lately I've been thinking about how most high school english teachers and ALL high school guidance councilors are the devil incarnate. Most don't know this, but I was placed in remedial english the first year I transferred here from my first high school because I got bad grades in math and science. It makes no sense, and now I'm in college acing my way through english and lit courses, and have a job opening next semester in the writing center. If you must know who the most AWESOME instructors at IUPUC are... you must know Mr. Dibble. I took his L115 class and fell in love with him. However, because I have the 2004 class schedule right in front of me (I really do) I know that Dibble isn't teaching L115 this semester. Another fave teach of mine is teaching it, but only in Greensburg :( So instead of a lit class (you wanted a writing class anyway) I suggest that you take intro to creative writing... but I don't know any of the teachers who are teaching that class this semester! I assume that you are taking W132 right now. I hated it, too. Research ain't mah' thang. I'm taking the Intro to Drama with Wills next semester. It should be fun, Wills seems like a hard ass but she's really just a poetry writing kitten. We will just read theatrical works and we take a field trip to a play (haven't done THAT in years!) from what I understand. Although, not much writing. I guess, all in in all... if I were you, I'd try out Intro to Creative writing (W206). I enjoyed it and I can't see the instructor being THAT bad. It's being taught by Bushfield... ever had him?

I'm actually in 131 now... However awsome I thought my placement test impromptu essay was.. apparently whoever read it didn't appreciate how well it really was written! *glares* It probably WAS Mrs. Lang (my current teacher whom I hate) who read it... I mean she's nice enough.. she's just a rotten teacher I think.. All she does the entire class is talk about what she's been doing the week before and making fun of things... often making fun of things I like >.< Such as anime, and yugioh >.<
I assume the feeling of hatred is actually mutual.. She's pulled me aside more than once to tell me how good my papers are, and to just say a couple of little things I should fix up... and I do as she asks.. and I get a C... Both paper's we've done so far.. C and C+.. It fucking pisses me off :P but whatever.. only a few more weeks. .and one more godawful research paper...

Don't worry. MANY good english students must take W131. It's not uncommon. I had to take it. I think the graders of the entry essays must not look over the papers too quickly, and if you think about it... if they let you pass into W132, that's 3 less hours you'd have to pay for that semester. Marketing scam? I think so.
