Friday recs post: to ride it like he stole it
It’s been way too long since I did one of these. Since I’m in a new fandom I’ve been gorging myself on fic from it and this is a bunch of my favourites, so it’s all even better than usual.
As ever with me, it’s a combination of cute banter and super-dark kinkfic, so watch the warnings -- I give em.

dirtmemer. Noctis/Prompto, with the focus on OT4 gen; ~9100 words; G. Summary: Ignis Scientia chases off Noctis's only friend slash boyfriend. It is a bad decision. Ignis regrets it, a little too late, because sometimes he is a raging idiot.
I have read this more than once. I’m fairly sure more than twice. I LOVE IT. You can see how hard Iggy’s trying to be a good advisor and protect Noct from a possible gold-digger; he’s such a sweet, earnest dork and messes up so badly and I LOVE HIM. There are great character moments for all of them: Ignis’ darker side flashing out in how he talks to Prompto and his being prepared to hide Noct and Prompto from any paparazzi with newspapers; Gladio’s amusement and being such a good sounding-board when Ignis knows he’s messed up; Prompto’s anxiety, and how clearly he wants to fight for Noct when Ignis tells him to stay away and how his insecurity wins; Noct stress-napping then controlling himself like a prince then totally losing his shit, and warping after Prompto to catch him and knocking them both over <3333 THEY’RE ALL SO ADORABLE AND CRAP AND PERFECTLY WRITTEN I CAN’T.

This is so hot and so dark. The beautiful angst of it all (Prompto saying he’s sorry, omg) and the hot (Ardyn making Prompto agree he’s a whore) and poor Noct’s helpless rage, and the perfectly IC responses of the bros - Ignis wondering if he’s being tortured, Noct sick and furious and not wanting to know, and Gladio being the first one to work it out.

This is incredibly hot, and I have such a weakness for enthusiastic-bottom!Gladio. This fandom is making me like A/B/O, I guess??? IDK. I like the sex pollen element, and this one doesn’t have creepy social mores and only a bit of pregnancy stuff (as Gladio’s breeding kink). (Not to judge people who enjoy that stuff, just, for me it complicates happy smut land in ways I’m fine with missing.) Gladio’s POV is hilarious and great, and Prompto is freaking out and it’s delightful, and dom!Iggy and brat!Noctis are just my faves.

Summary: "Perhaps if I change the way I look this will be easier for you," Ardyn says, and Noctis clenches his fists and squeezes his eyes shut. It's for the crystal, he tells himself. Do what he wants and he'll let you have the crystal.
Ardyn makes himself look like other people for purposes of seriously upsetting one of the bros: my new favourite trope, and this is a fine, fine example of the form. Poor heroic Noct ♥ My bb. I love that Ardyn changes his style for each imitation, too, and how he taunts Noct with how much his friends love him. Because what is Ardyn about if not ruining all that’s good in the world?

spacehopper. Ignis/Prompto; ~9300 words; Teen. Summary: Prompto knew what Ignis would do when confronted with a variety of new and exciting ingredients. What he didn’t know was what Ignis would do when confronted with, well, him. So Prompto had to be the best Ignis he could be, and analyze the situation. And what better way to do that than with some research?
So cute! Prompto is adorable and awkward trying to get up the nerve to ask Iggy out, and Iggy is also adorable and awkward, and they basically do a sidequest as their date. Lovely.
Auf Wiedersehen Boy by
invisibledeity. Ardyn/Prompto; ~29 500 words; non-con, choking, gaslighting; Explicit. Summary: Prompto takes a very ill-advised selfie next to Ardyn's car. This is a story about forests, mythril hunting, and what happens when a lamb walks into a lion's den.
This is super-hot and really upsetting by turns, like all the best non-con smut should be. Ardyn is absolutely terrifying, both in how unbeatable he is physically and in how he unerringly targets Prompto’s weaknesses and fears. The section after the rape, where Prompto’s with the bros and hasn’t told them, is. A lot. But it’s fantastic and there’s a hurt/comfort bit where Ignis has obviously guessed, and gently encourages Prompto to tell him, that makes me well up. Not least because Ignis has this beautiful line: “forgive me. I was meant to protect you.” Which actually isn’t remotely true - he’s meant to protect Noctis, with Prompto’s help - but it 100000% fits that Ignis would feel that way, especially in the wake of a trauma Prompto suffered because he was with them.
