Today's Rule: get player feedback. Even if you start on the
same page as players it's important to stay in line or at least all take the same turn. The end of every session should be a few minutes for players to say what they liked and what they didn't. Yes, even you GM who has been running for 20 years. Tastes change, the same game gets boring, sooner or later you will hit some player's hot button. Like a marriage, a good game is based on good communication. It also gives players a hand in game's direction.
