The magicite itself was a crystal basically. My own guess was that the magical energy that could be drained was held within it and that could be transferred to humans to allow them to use it. We do know that draining the energy from a living Esper and infusing it into a human allowed the human to learn magic, so that is a logical enough guess. And unfortunately, our magicite did not travel to this place with us.

It appears that my world was not the only one using crystals as an energy source. [ Perhaps Spock will look into that. ] Dilithium crystals have been highly conducive to space exploration. However, it is not technology that would be considered "magic".
