TVD S4 Thoughts
So, I haven’t written about TVD since the winter hiatus. There’s been some stuff that I wanted to discuss before it’s obsolete. Most of this is just stuff that’s been bothering me or pure speculation (no concrete spoilers for future episodes- maybe a few vague ones from the book, which I haven’t actually read tbh, but the book’s not the show, so…)
- Damon’s reaction to Elena’s suggestion of the cure (him taking it with her…having a human future together) is making me nervous, and frankly irritating me. First of all, yes, it’s entirely possible that he’s just avoiding the cure because he’s not 100% positive about Elena’s feelings once she’s released from the sire bond, and doesn’t want to make a huge life-changing decision for someone. As someone who’s been unlucky in life (especially love) as much as Damon, that’d be perfectly understandable. However, if it’s not that…I’m just not buying it.
Just a few seasons ago, Damon was all “I miss it more than anything in the world!” regarding his humanity. In weird TVD timeline, that occurred less than a year ago. I’m sorry, I just do NOT believe that a vampire who’s lived over a hundred years is suddenly going to change his mind over a huge decision like his humanity. I know he made some comment acknowledging that he recently felt differently, but c’mon, really?! Also, just from a logical standpoint, WHY would you not take the cure? If there’s no repercussions and enough to go around (which I find very unlikely, but hey, this is a hypothetical scenario) why would you not take the cure? I mean, you can always be turned back into a vampire, but there aren’t exactly cures for vampirism hopping off shelves.
- If Damon turns out to really, truly not want his humanity back enough to take the cure (which I still find totally wrong considering how he’s been portrayed, but whatever, bad writing) and Elena does want it, I see a possible breakup in their future. That sounds pessimistic, I know, and even if they retain their opposite positions, I don’t think they’ll certainly break up, I just feel like this would put a legitimate stumbling block in their relationship. Not some stupid sire bond drama, but an actual reason they may not be suited for each other (and how TPtB might build Stefan/Elena back up).
- Anyway…back to Damon. I know others have though the same, and I do feel like his death or cure from vampirism (likely when he doesn’t want it), or a combination of the two (dies, but later comes back as a human, or some such shenanigans), seems likely in the near future. Honestly, I can’t say I’d hate either choice. No, I don’t want him to permanently die, but it’d be interesting to see people grieve (and see how others act about both Damon’s death, and Elena’s reaction to Damon’s death). The cure route…I don’t think it’d be AS emotional, but it’d really be interesting to see how Damon deals with that (though it would really bother me if he was really set against it. I’m sure we’d have lots of Damon!guilt and Stefan!woe as well).
Idk…these episodes are making me really nervous, haha. I kind of feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop regarding the Damon/Elena relationship (and on that note, kind of feel like Damon is too).
