Off to the Big Apple

Well, tomorrow actually.  Mali and I are taking the kids down to New York City for our kinda annual trip.  Amtrak has a special this month for their 40th anniversary where kids ride free, so the sometime-this-season trip quickly became the Hey, let's go next weekend trip.  We've been staying in hotels when we go, which tends to limit how often we can go, since, well, hotels in NYC, pretty f-ing expensive.  This time we're staying at Steve and Rachel's ( Mali's dad and stepmom ) apartment down there.  It's way up on the island, and while it's sort of surrounded by questionable areas, apparently it's a pretty nice area.  We'll see.  I have faith, and it will be great if this works out.  It could mean going down there more often maybe, which would be nice.  I like New York, for a couple days at a time.  Steve and Rachel are totally awesome about letting us stay in their places.  Their house in Shelburne Falls out in western MA is where we stay when we go out there.  They're responsible for a lot of sanity restoring vacation time for us, god bless 'em.

Things we plan to do, in no particular order or guarantee of actual undertaking -

Get yummy bagels for breakfast
Get cheap tickets for a show at TKTS ( Mali is way up for this and willing to wait in the line if there's something groovy available, which is awesome )
Carriage ride in Central Park
Central Park Zoo!
Go worship at the -
    Apple Store
    Toys 'R Us
    Hershey Store
    Nintendo Store
    Forbidden Planet
Most likely an assortment of girly clothing stores : )
The Empire State building
The street fair down in Union Square
The Stardust diner ( This is my have-to-do when I go to NYC, but I think I might be having to skip it this time, not quite sure about the buy in from my fellow travelers : )

It is going to be a full weekend though, because I got tickets at a decent hour tomorrow afternoon, but to get the kids free I had to get tickets for departing 9:00 Sunday night.  Thankfully Stacey is going to pick them up from us at South Station when we get in around 1:00 AM.  It's pretty late, but it saves us like $120, so it's a win.

So in closing, we all love the train, we all love New York City!  Even if it's going to be cloudy and a little rainy, this is going to be a great weekend!  =)
