Oliver Kahn, Katrin Müller Hohenstein, Jogi Loew & Ottmar Hitzfeld on ZDF + Some Hocus Pocus!

Normally I provide near-literal translations, but this video is simply too long and most people are probably more interested in what Jogi Loew, Katrin Müller Hohenstein, Oliver Kahn (they can barely stand to look at each other - a source of constant ( Read more... )

I'd have sent Goetze home instead of Cacau - I have to honest. Brilliant as he is he doesn't look healthy enough to go. Some good ideas but no legs. I'd play Kroos as a number 10 before I choose him though.

But Jogi has made his choice.

On the other hand - you are quite right!

This optimism is un-German. Going back to moaning about the team seems more in character and more comfortable over-all.

Wow, sending Götze home would have been a really bold move from Jogi. I'm sure he had his reasons from watching him in training to let him stay instead of Cacau. He must have been better there than in the Switzerland game. Maybe he'll surprise us and be the shooting star of the tournament. You never know.

But on the other hand I can see where you come from - taking Klose, Mertesacker and Schweinsteiger after their long injury breaks is one thing because of their experience and indispensability, but Götze really hasn't shown much in the NT yet and, like Draxler and ter Stegen, is certainly someone for 2014 and 2016, so why take him if he isn't at 100%? And why do we need another 10 anyway if we have the best one in the world right now ;)?

It would have been bold indeed! Which is why he didn't do it!

Not one for controversy, our Jogi. Nearly ever controversy he's ever been involved with has developed from his avoidance of controversy (Re: Ballack affair).

True, maybe he didn't dare to take only 3 Dortmunders, when there are 8 Bayern players.

I always thought he was sort of controversial in the way he held on to players that critics would never have nominated or put in the starting 11, like Poldi during the last few seasons or nominating Marin when he still played in the 2. Bundesliga. He is not one for open confrontation, that's true, but he certainly isn't influenced by what journalists/fans say, otherwise we would have Weidenfeller, Sven Bender and maybe even Großkreutz on the list.

You know, you're right. I've done him a disservice without thinking about it. He's different from other coaches (German) in that way. Current form used to be almost all that mattered. No reasonable person would have taken Klose or Poldi (or...more importantly...started them) last time around. Combined 9 goals? Poldi getting only 3? But they came...

I leave aside the Arne Friederich situation...

I also have to say I think Marin was sent home in 08 not because of the compulsive press interest (which left English fans with the strange impression he's our itty-bitty-white-hope - a commonly expressed viewpoint: "They have Ozil, Podolski, Marin...") but in spite of it ( ... )
