After our trip to the Mellat Palace, we decided to explore Darband, which was located at the side of one of the mountains that embrace Tehran. We were lucky to catch a glimmer of the first frost, and the snow that fell from the heavens danced lazily down the sky and into our outstretched palms.
I would like to think that my mother and myself are well travelled people, but there is something about snowflakes that evoke a sense of joy and wonderment in both of us. As we saw the snowflakes fall on the screen of the mini-bus, we both started to grin from ear to ear.
It boggles my mind to think about the strange dichotomies that pervade Tehran. One can experience the desert wasteland and the frost-filled snowscapes in a matter of a half hour car ride. Truly, the sun soaked desert that is Iran has heart of Ice and Snow.
