My god, it was hot today. It's usually not this warm in April around here. I did end up wearing my Ten coat, but I had to ditch it midway through the day. It was just one layer too many. Thank goodness for coat checks.
(I think the thumbnails work? They show up on my phone, so I hope they show up on other people's browsers/phones)
So, meeting Wil Wheaton. He totally accepts gifts. I went up first with the book I wanted him to sign. It's a book he wrote a while back, with him doing reviews of old TNG episodes with some behind the scenes stories thrown in. I don't believe it was a widely published book (my sister bought it for me for Christmas), so he was pretty happy to see his book.
And then I showed him the Wesley doll that I knitted. At first he only seemed mildly impressed; I think he was under the impression that it was something I bought and was just showing him. I then had to explain that I had made it specially for him and that it was a gift to him and he got a lot more animated. So he was very stoked and took a picture of me holding the Wesley doll to add to his Instagram story:
I was on Wil Wheaton's Instagram! I was surprised he posted it right away.
Rest of the day was spent in panels. I walked in on Eliza Taylor's panel like midway through.
Couple of things worth mentioning. 1) Eliza looks a lot like Rose McIver when her short haircut. 2) Eliza had her dog with her on a stage, which has got to be a first for a guest. 3) The moderator, Tanner, joked that Spider-Man dies in Avengers: Infinity War and everyone booed him. Poor guy. He had to explain that he hadn't seen the movie yet. I don't watch The 100 so I was mostly trying to snap pictures of Eliza Taylor's cute dog.
Next was Tom Cavanagh. He was supposed to be a guest last year but had to cancel last minute, so it was great that he came this year.
In another first, the panel started off with a short film Tom wrote and directed last year with Grant Gustin. It's called Tom and Grant and it was pretty funny. Most of the film is them goofing around while they wait for a bank heist to happen. I think the film is being toured around at various film fests, so there's a chance to see it. The rest of panel was the regular Q&A. Yes, that's Garrett Wang yet again. At least his binge watching of The Flash from last year could be used again this year. Tom got some great questions about the various Wellses he has played over the years. More Council of Wells is possible in the future!
Since Jeff Goldblum was the big guest of the day, I sat through two other panels before his to ensure that I got a good seat. One was Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel. Her panel was actually quite packed; lots of Disney fans I guess. She was actually pretty entertaining and she still sounds like Ariel after 30 years, especially when she sings. That's right, she got to sing "A Part of Your World" at the end of her panel. Perhaps Disney is a bit more lax about their songs? Jodi did mention she's in Wreck-it Ralph 2 along with all of the other Disney Princesses. So now she's met everyone, except Elsa (insert joke about Elsa giving her the cold shoulder).
Then there was Jennifer Morrison's panel. She actually spilled her coffee all over herself at the start of her panel, but Garrett was super sweet and used his jacket to help wipe it off. I don't watch Once Upon a Time but I was impressed by the number of kids asking questions. I suppose it's a show that families can watch together. Jennifer also let a big spoiler out. Something about Emma's baby, Hope? As I am not a fan, I don't know if this was a huge revelation, but it sounds like Emma comes back in the series finale with a new child. Jennifer was unapologetic about letting the spoiler out. What can ABC do? Fire her? :-D
So yeah, Jeff Goldblum. He was only scheduled for today, so the room was packed when his panel started. I'm sure we've all seen those videos of Jeff Goldblum where he's utterly adorable and quirky. Well, his panel was exactly like that. He didn't take any questions from the audience, which was odd, but his handler type was good at keeping things going. At one point, he had Jeff read out tweets about himself. :-D People say some weird stuff about Jeff Goldblum.
The most Jeff Goldblum-y photo I took. Oh yeah, the guy was also suffering from a cold and losing his voice, but kudos to him for pressing on.
Tomorrow's forecast is crap. Rain all day. :-( I'm a little bummed that the good weather didn't last the entire weekend, but 3 out of 4 days isn't bad.
