I really want to play Andromeda, but I don't have a PS4 and I think my sense of direction is bad enough that an open-world game would end with me getting lost in a hayfield for several hours or something equally foolish. I've been playing through the ME trilogy for the first time and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I'm almost done with ME3.
I just started Andromeda this afternoon so I don't have an opinion yet. I'm still getting used to the new map system so there was a lot of wandering around on my part. And this was just in the first mission. I can't imagine what it'll be like when I land on the first uncharted world. I'm so used to the controls from previous Mass Effect games, and an Xbox controller to boot. Things are laid out a bit differently on a PS4 controller.
Let me know what you think of the ending of ME3. There was a lot of hullabaloo when the game first came out.
But here's an even more important question: who did you romance? :-) Were you pretty consistent across the games? Or did you pursue different characters?
Oh jeez, that sounds extremely like an opportunity for me to get lost. I freaked out when ME2 stopped giving me maps for missions that took place outside the Citadel or Omega. My desire to play Andromeda has been greatly reduced though since I found out that the romance options were different than I thought

I miss having a mini map. Now it's just a compass along the top of the screen and it's very annoying trying to figure out which way is the navpoint.
I picked up a used copy of Dragon Age: Origins the other day and I started that, but omg the controls make no sense, I got stuck in my squadmate's body for a whole minute, and it looks SO OLD even though it's the same age as ME1.
I remember Dragon Age: Origins being a bit of a slog. So many quests to do. I actually prefer Dragon Age 2, which probably puts me in the minority since it's not well liked. So if you can make it through the first game, the next one is worth picking up. Eve Myles voices one of your teammates and her character is just the cutest.
The last ten hours or so were just really unpleasant because it felt like constant extremely difficult battles. If they wanted me to feel like I was being worn down by an impossible war, it worked, but I literally got to points where I just wanted the game to be over because I was so tired of fighting banshees.I felt the same way, too

That sounds like a real good way to get lost haha. I am the actual worst at directions, and even the little objective marker in ME was super hard for me to make sense of. I think it took me until about halfway through ME3 to figure out whether the arrow was supposed to be pointing inward or outward

I've heard part of why DAO is hard to play is because it was originally designed as a computer game?
Ah, that would explain the gameplay style. I like combat as it happens, but in DAO the action gets paused while you figure out which spell or tactic to use. Thankfully they did away with that for later games.
I don't know if I have the Citadel DLC or not. Is it meant to come after the end of the game, or during? From what I can remember, the Citadel DLC is set during the middle of the game. Shepard and company are basically on shore leave while they take a break from the war. But since the DLC was released after ME3, it's easy to imagine that Shepard survived whichever ending you picked and the whole of the DLC is some well earned R&R for saving the galaxy. It's probably still available for download. At the time of release it was free but it probably costs money now. It's a ton of fun, though. The main mission is great and you get to hang out with your squad mates afterwards. Oh, and there are so many great jokes. The writers clearly

I liked that you could pause while choosing a power in Mass Effect, but your regular combat options were more straightforward since it was a shooter. You don't really have time to call up the wheel for attacks unless you're a mage and it's hard to do button mashing with your mapped attacks if you want to use something from the second set of slots.
Oh yeah, I did have that then! That was when I got to dance with Jack and Liara and Shepard basically got space-engaged.
I love the Citadel DLC. It's ridiculously fun. All of the jokes and the squad banter and Samantha's freakin' mass effect field toothbrush saved the day! Well, it opened a door, but if she hadn't opened the door, then Shepard never could have got into the Normandy. And the party afterwards. :-D It was great that everyone was varying levels of inebriated.
That last line, though. I'm pretty sure whoever Shepard's love interest is has a different piece of dialogue, but Shepard's final line is always the same: "The best."
In the first game, I romanced Kaiden, mostly because (and this is going to sound so dumb) he's always right there after you got out of briefings and you didn't have to walk far to talk to him. I know Liara is just down the way in the med bay, but hey, the Normandy is a big ship. ;-) Also, I didn't discover the elevator to the bottom of the ship until I was near the end of the game.
ME2 I romanced Garrus and that carried over to ME3. Garrus' voice actor just sounds amazing so I was constantly talking to him.
Oh yeah, there were definitely one-on-one meetings you could have with individual squad members. Like, you got to shoot things with Garrus at a certain spot on the Citadel. So that was kind of like shore leave.

This is the DLC I'm talking about: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect_3:_Citadel
I'm glad I didn't give away too much then. If you can find a video of the whole thing on YouTube, it's well worth watching.
