You know, I get angry with people my age a lot. Now I understand why.
I was watching a program about young people, people like me. Not everything they said was valid, but one thing that struck me was the fact that we are the probably most compliant generation ever to hit the face of this earth. We obediently purchase all the same products; we all have iPods, cell phones, computers. We're slaves to media, to the internet, and it pisses me off. Where is the rebellion? What happened to the liberal youth? Fuck youths today who call themselves liberal. The liberals are conservative. Hell, the radicals are conservative. What the fuck are you rebelling against if everything you do panders to your parents, your teachers, or a college admissions officer? The young liberal is dead. He is too far consumed with his own success, with being the absolute best or as close to it as he can be. And whatever insecurity he faces therein he drowns in audio-visual overstimulation or excessivity in everything from worldly possessions to sexual activity. If you were born between 1980 and 1993 and call yourself a liberal, there is a very good chance you are living a lie. I pity my generation.
