Laurian stood in front of her room, waiting for the big ceremony that would take place that day, followed by an even bigger party in the evening. She felt restless, even a bit nervous. She knew today would be a big day for everyone at her Order. Not only would she turn 21 years old, which in itself was considered important here, but would she

She turned around with a slightly forced smile on her face, though it soon became genuine when Rei's outfit pleasantly surprised her. "You look beautiful," Laurian said as she walked closer to her girlfriend. "Red looks good on you."

Rei wore a smile similar to Laurian's, pushing aside her own brooding nature to appear cheerful and supportive for her girlfriend. "Today is your big day," she simply stated, not wanting to draw too much importance to the things Laurian was already dreading. Certainly a countless number of ladies-in-waiting had already filled her mind with every detail of the upcoming ceremony and all the things that would be required of her, if Christmas was any indication. "Before everyone else burdens you with their own demands," she continued, "I wanted to slip in and wish you a happy birthday."

"I'd almost forget about that with all the fuss everyone makes," she then added in a soft voice. Although she had been pretty much alone on this day so far, people had constantly come to her for small things, minor details, everything that needed her attention. She assumed things would get only worse after today. What if she would hardly have any time to see her girlfriend?
"I love you, Rei," Laurian blurted out. "I know I don't say it often and... that I have a hard time showing it. But I really love you, Rei. You do know that, right?"

It wasn't like Laurian to blurt things out...it wasn't like her to show a lot of emotion at all, really, as she had just confessed. With this sudden confession and need for reassurance Rei felt that she had been right assuming Laurian could use someone to talk to right about now.
Rei encircled Laurian's waist with her arms in a loose embrace. "I know," she Seer replied. "But I still like to hear you say that."

"I'm scared," she then confessed. "I... I feel I'm not ready for this yet. I'm scared that I won't have time for you anymore. And I don't want that. You mean a lot to me, Rei." She closed her eyes. "If it's up to me, you'll always come first. I really hope my duties won't consume all of my time."

Her gaze then rose and fixed itself upon the door. "It won't take long before they'll come to get me. You should probably go to the chapel." Laurian looked back down at her girlfriend and placed the palm of her hand against Rei's cheek. "You know where that is, right? I can ask for someone to guide you to the chapel if you don't. I'll be there in a short while as well."

Despite her reply and her promise, Rei knew that for now she would have to go, to give the new Leader time to make her final preparations. Her eyes traveled to the doorway and then back to her lover. "I believe I remember the way," Rei said after a slight moment of hesitation; if not, she could always allow her intuition to guide her.
A slightly pained expression did cross her face for a moment, however. She did not want to further add to the Slayer's doubts and insecurities by asking if she would be all right, but neither did she really want to leave her to turn and walk away. "I guess I'll be going," she finally said, briefly touching her hand to Laurian's. With a slightly forced smile she then added, "I'll be waiting for you there."
