Pennsic Recap: Part One

Pennsic XXXIX was fabulous! I'm going to need awhile and several notes to update it all but in short...

i Verdi Confusi performed seventeen short plays over seven scenari! This included one play we wrote on site, another that never had a written scenario, and two more whose scenariwe didn't have with us at Pennsic! Now, all of these plays were short, from five to twenty minutes long. Our full three act didn't get performed (more on that later) but it was still a monumental and successful time for the troupe.

Our gigs included: the Queens' Tea (2 plays), Casa Bardicci's Lowly Toady Party (1 play to get past the gate guards, 3 for the party), Midrealm Royal's Busking Space (1 play), Dominica's camp(3), Casa Bardicci's Hoity Toity Party (4), and Iron Lance's Debauchery Party (3). We performed It All Makes Sense Now! 5 times (almost 6); Capitano's A Frayed Knot (orCapitano's Afraid Not) 4 times; The Pennsic Party Tour 3 times; The City Watch Versus Capitano Testosteroné 2 times; Arlecchino Lends a Hand, Arlecchino the Royal Taster, andFashionable Banditry each one time.

More importantly than all that, we made some amazing new friends and grew closer to ones we already had. We met Lady Avelina del Dolce, whose interest and passion in commedia is similar to my own. She's started three commedia troupes of her own! And though she came on board for the play we didn't do, she was part of every gig and in many of our shows. Her lord Deryk helped out and guest starred greatly through the week. We helped bring Tim into commedia (and he joined Lady Sophia the Orange's troupe's performances too) and I got to work with Edekyn again after we both played servants in the first commedia production I was part of at Pennsic (TheCarriage of Love) in 2006. Cat finally got to perform with us after years of wanting to. We made some new contacts with other troupes and others at Pennsic. We were recognized in the streets of Pennsic (and even outside Pennsic!) as being part of i Verdi Confusi!

As for the rest of Pennsic... It was still great. It was hot, very hot, and humid. Hotter than we expected. Not as rainy 'cept for the last weekend when one of the heaviest storms I've seen came in. I got some new garb. From T'gerToggs, the merchant I got the Awesome Hat of Awesome last year, I got a 16th Century Italian patchwork doublet and a 16th Century English patchwork longcoat. The doublet came with the sleeves and those can be used on the coat. Each for an excellent price! I'm so happy about my spiffy new garb - just wish it had been cool enough to wear it! Avelina did debut in my new garb for a few plays though, heh.

We got to watch several plays including both i Sebastiani shows, i Genesii, and Masquerade Medieval's Man For All Season. I auditioned for Whose Line Doth It Be? again... and again failed to get in! But I have this suspicious feeling they keep me out just so I can film the show. ;)

And it was of course great seeing so many friends again (including a surprise visit from Calvin!), making new ones, hanging out for over a week in garb in a medieval village of over10,000 people, and, of course, spending it all with my love, Lady Alienor de Saint Remi!
