For Ariadne: No song unsung, no wine untasted

It has been a few weeks since Ariadne's revelation, since graduation and meeting her parents. It had all been a whirlwind, a twisting madness of excitement and fear and learning and love. It had been so new to Arthur and he hadn't felt he'd caught up with himself, and he was still racing to keep up. Exhilarating and perfect and everything this life had been meant to be. Yet he wanted something more from it. A moment, time with Ariadne, those moments that he felt they were losing in the excitement of it all.

The roof to the building provided the perfect view of the city, the wind light and cool like early autumn. Lights were strung all along the edge of the roof, and candles in glass towers added a soft glow scented with jasmine.

A blanket was laid out in the center of the roof, a plate of chocolate strawberries nearby and a bottle of chilled sparkling apple cider. It was elegant and simple and everything he thought Ariadne was.

A note had been left for her, asking her to come to the roof. Wearing jeans he knew she liked and a tee, Arthur waited by the edge of the roof, looking out over the city, a small smile curving his lips.
