Catching Up

I've been away for a couple of weeks and been very busy since I've been back home.

My husband and I went camping in the alpine region of Victoria - at the camping ground - "Snake Reserve" .  It's really beautiful up there.  We spent 4 days doing absolutely nothing but relaxing!

I can't wait to go back next year.

Unfortunately my Grandmother passed away while I was away.  It was lucky that we went into town where we had reception on our mobiles and got the message.  We were so far away.  My brother and sister-in-law organised the funeral, which was good.  But there was a bit of a family fight going on as to where we were going to bury her.  It caused no end of stress.  The neices wanted her buried in Sydney at the Rookwood Cemetery - no family around her, Adam and I wanted to bury her next to Mum at Crookwell.  To be finally reunited with her long lost daughter.  Mum was taken away from her mother at 1 year old and Grandma was told she had died.  Grandma found out Mum didn't die as a child and searched for her, hired a private eye.  I am not sure if they ever met or not, Mum died when I was 5 and Dad never said anything.

I didn't know Mum was adopted until 1995 when I was 22.  Dad didn't say anything until my Aunt was looking for her children as the laws had changed so you could.  So I spent 12 years looking for my Mum's biological family.  I found a few cousins, but they had no idea where Grandma was.  The last time they heard from her was in about 1981.  Finally I found her in a nursing home in 2006.  It's a nursing that I used to pass all the time and I had no idea!

I told the family that I had contacted that I had found her.  They all thought she was dead already.  They didn't try and find her.  She'd been missing for nearly 27 years!

Anyway, at her finally passing, the neices were disputing where we were going to bury her.  They caused me no end of stress.  I thought it was a bit rich after years of them not knowing where she was, not bothered to try and find her and already thinking she was dead disputing about burying her next to her daughter whom she was searching for for most of her life! They threatened to get a solicitor etc

Anyway, it worked out.  We buried her next to Mum.  She had a long and lonely life and now in death she is back with her family.  I'll be buried in Crookwell as well as my brother when we die.

Rest in Peace Margaret Elizabeth Johnstone.
