From the early days of space travel

With apologies to Russian Fandom, some of whom may know this story more intimately than the folks at NPR, which is what I link to below.

This (sad, true) story features a Kosygin, which I thought would interest LMB fans. And it is a tragedy, with Leonid Brezhnev seeming to be as cold blooded as Emperor Ezar and as vain as Serg. And a pair of cosmonaut friends who are (perhaps) willing to die to save the other's life. Can you get more Bujoldian?
