There's a Revolution Going On!
So... I finally started watching Slayers Revolution.
I know. I know. NOW, LLYBIAN?! YOU SERIOUSLY WAITED UNTIL NOW? YOU PREORDERED THE DAMN THING SO YOU'D GET IT RIGHT WHEN IT CAME OUT. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
...Shut it. I can be this way with things I love. While I haven't watched/read them they're still full of such delicious potential!
I've only seen the first two episodes so far so I can't really comment on much. And knowing my pattern of watching I'll probably watch one or two episodes at a time for awhile, get hooked, breeze through almost immediately to the end in one shot, skid to a halt. Wait a further eternity before watching the last few episodes ('cause then it'll be OVER) and then finally breath a sigh of relief.
Of course, I'm pretty damn sure then I'll have Evolution-R to contend with and the cycle will repeat.
Still, it's good to be back. Not that I've been in a Slayers withdrawal or anything, Lord knows *rolls eyes*. But it's nice to see that famous Slayers charm back in action again. And I can tell you for certain that I'm looking forward to screenshotting the heck out of this thing once I'm done.
Still, I've got something to complain about something that I didn't think I'd ever have to: the voice acting.
But how could that possibly be? It's my favorite voice actors doing my favorite roles - back after all this time! Well... maybe that's part of the problem. Maybe it's been too long.
It hurts to say this, because I love these guys. But things just are... off. I've been rewatching TRY and that makes things even more glaring. I love Lisa Ortiz as Lina. Sure, she started out Season 1 a little too nasal and high-pitched I think, but the voice matured before long and to me she is the quintissential Lina Inverse. But as of now she's even more nasal and high-pitched then she was in the beginning of Season 1 :/
Gourry and Zel sound a bit off too. Zel sounds strangely... muffled to me. Like maybe they got Crispin Freeman on the phone or something? It cuts me to the heart to say that. I love Crispin Freeman. And he was the one that I was CERTAIN they'd get even if the rest of the original cast didn't make it. I always get the feeling from him that he really cares about what he's doing.
In fact, the only one that sounds perfectly 100% right to me is Veronica Taylor. (*deep breath* I LOVE YOU VERONICA TAYLOR)
Anyway, I'm hoping things settle in a bit more as show goes on. It *has* been a long time. Honestly, I'm really just glad to have them all back in any case.
I haven't seen anything with Xellos yet so I can't comment on his new English VA, but I've heard good things. Something tells me though that no matter how good he is I'll be pining for the days of David Moo. Did I mention I'm one of his six fans? There's just something about that evil, nasal valley girl portrayal of his... TELL ME I'M WRONG. I DON'T CARE. The heart wants what it wants.
