I found a pretty large bald spot on my cat Lisa yesterday, right between her shoulder blades. Her skin on the spot is a little bit pink, but I haven't seen her scratching at it or fussing with it in any way. I thought perhaps it might be a reaction to the upper respiratory booster she got when she was at the vet for her 6 month check up on Friday since it's right where they would've administered the shot. We took her to the vet today and they said that's possible, but it would be unusual since 1. She's never had that kind of reaction to the booster before and 2. That kind of reaction usually appears a few weeks after a shot, not a few days.
Another possibility that the vet brought up that could've caused something like that would've been a bug bite, and I have noticed that there have been more spiders than usual in the house this year. Mom noted on the way home that the spot is more keyhole shaped than round, which would make sense to me for a spider bite since you get two bite points with spiders and the irritation could've spread out from there.
In either case, the vet said that we should just keep an eye on it for now and if it stays red and if she starts scratching/licking it a lot then they can give us some kind of topical medication for it.She's going to be going in to get her blood drawn to check on her thyroid in a few weeks, so they can check more then.
I really hope it's a fairly harmless reaction. The vet didn't mention any scary possibilities associated with it but still... I worry about my kitty.
