This is the Diary that Never Ends
Enough with you, April Fool's Entry!
So... someone asked me how long I thought Diary of a Dragon would end up being. To be honest, that is a scary question to ask. I can't really know how long it's gonna be since there's a lot left unfigured out at this point and it's hard to say how much attention or how little attention certain sections will need. However... I can make some guesses...
But first, let's look at my fic length history so far...
Fic (continuous narrative) with most chapters: A Little Opposition (28)
Fic with highest word count: Diplomacy (93,561)
Now... since Diary of a Dragon runs parallel to the events of Slayers Try we can make some guesses about how long it'll take to get through all of them. Since at chapter 8 I'm about halfway through episode 5, let's just assume that chapter 9 will run through the rest of episode 5 (which is my plan). That would mean that for every episode I have to write about 1.8 chapters (a broad number to work with--some episodes take more space and some take less). If we take that number and look at all the episodes of Slayers Try it should take me... about 47 chapters to get through the all. And that's not counting inbetween adventures and ending stuff... or accounting for the fact that the latter episodes are probably going to demand more journal space because a lot happens in them. This fic could very likely wind up in an excess of 50 chapters as a result.
And then I have to look at the fact that the chapter length for Diary is very often longer than the other fics I've written. The average right now is 4,781.5... so if it ends up being, let's say 50 chapters long that'll be about 239,075 words.
Yikes.
...I don't even want to do that math to find out how long it'll probably take me to write this whole damn thing a the rate I'm going. That would be too depressing. I guess I better kick chapter 9 into high gear if I ever want to finish this thing!
Yes, I can do math concerning things other than Xellos's sex life, thankyouverymuch.
