I've started the New Year with an extended bout of hedonism (hot tub, chocolate, wine, Leonard Cohen's Book of Longing) and it's been wonderful. I'm starting to replenish my energy enough to feel like I can conquer the world again. It's nice, it's been a while. I even enrolled for a French course--last one I took was in first year, and my French has been slowly slipping away since. We can't have that, and so. French course. Also taking Creative Writing part II, because part I made me a noticeably better writer, and I want to keep improving.
Speaking of continuing to improve, here are my goals for 2010. They're a bit different than last year's. After looking at last year's goals more closely, I realized that many of them weren't actually very good. So this year I'm going to have goals that are challenging but not out of my reach, goals that I have full control over. And I'm going to write them out with colourful markers and post them on my wall, and when I meet a goal I will scratch it off. I like scratching things off. So, here they are:
1. Write 50,000 words of fiction (short stories, poetry, novels, worldbuilding/outlines)
2. Write something at least 180 days out of 365
3. 25 submissions, no matter the results
4. Graduate university with a minimum average of 85%
5. Do the splits
6. Move in with the boy
7. Have everything unpacked within a week
8, Don't move stuff I don't ever use - prune!
9. Get a kitten
10. Make writing goal posts every week except when I'm out of town
2010 is going to be a good year.
goal-setting,
it's a good life
