Yesterday was a day at sea sailing from Greece back to Italy. We are on the island of Sicily and it is well known for having the highest active volcano in the world(?), at least in Italy. It is amazing to hear what this part of the world goes through constantly-earthquakes and active volcanos. Etna-the volcano-last erupted in 2002 and the picture I have is a house that was destroyed by that lava flow but what is even more interesting are the tree behind it that were not destroyed (chestnut).
The other photo is of downtown Catania. Looks like alot of other downtowns. At the highest elevations, nothing much grows on the volcanic ashe but as you go down a bit you see lichen like plants all over and they grow into plants and I have pictures of them too. Two pictures don't do justice but it takes so long to download and it costs so much for minutes, I have to limit myself. Who know-maybe no one is interested anymore.
