Wow, a few minutes to sit down and still be awake enough to think. Probably because Trevor is sick. :P Not very- he's got a headache, sore throat, and low-grade fever, and I'm 90% sure it's just a virus. I hope so, anyway. If it was something an antibiotic would take care of, he would have spiked a higher fever by now. And now we're sitting ( Read more... )

I would totally help run BSG remix! I asked plaid about it months ago, and she hasn't been doing very well, but I bet I could get at least one or two other people to help me, and that would ease your burden to just consulting.

Awesome! If you want to run it, it's all yours! I'd love to see the challenge keep going, but I just don't have the energy to do it. Although it is the one challenge I'd consider signing up for, since I'm guaranteed a BSG writer :)

Hooray!

Okay, so send me whatever basic details you have, and I guess let me be a mod of bsg_remix? I'll see what I can do to make sure we have one this year. :D

I'm lana.baker at gmail.

If you want to make me burst into flames of rage, start in on the LOLOLOL BATTLE ROYALE RIPOFF nonsense. I like both. I've read both. The only thing that's the same is "kids kill each other" and "the government is bad". UGH.

(Who's your favourite character in BR so far? :D)

I know, right? I mean, I suspected it was the case. So many works can be boiled down to similar premises- they just aren't as striking as the premise in BR/HG, because kids killing kids is such a taboo. But they really are not the same at all ( ... )

Noriko is such a tragic waste of a character-who-lives that I can't even. (CHIGUSA I LOVE YOU COME BAAAAAAAAACK.) It's not that I think only badass characters are worth attention, but we just didn't KNOW anything about her for ages. By the time we do ... I don't know. Maybe I should reread and focus on trying to have feelings about her, but she's just so underdeveloped. I feel like they kind of give her a Crowning Moment of Badass and expect that to make up for everything else, in a reverse of the thing a lot of movies do where the female love interest is sassy/badass in the opening and then spends the rest of the time damseling. (I suspect that a well-written fic that actually gives her a character would change my mind, but as is? Ehhhh ( ... )

I had no idea that Battle Royale was a book. I only saw the movie on Netflix. I'm gonna see if I can find a used copy now. Thx.

Yeah! It's pretty decent. I like the version I have, because it has an interview with the author at the end. It's gory, but I do a lot better with written gore than visual- I don't know if I have any desire to ever watch the movie.

Gosh, you sound . . . different. I think it's the boys growing up and working. It does take things away from fandom. And well, BSG is pretty old by now. As for GoT, long live Daenerys Targaryen! It's good to know the show is trying to move a bit more forward than the books. I'm curious where the next two eps will lead! It sure is interesting TV!

Yeah, I think my energy is just directed in a different direction. But who knows?

I can't wait to watch tonight's episode, but it might be a few nights, yet. Howard's out of town. But I hope it was a good one!

This ep was good. The next one was terrible! Not in a badly-written way. But just . . . horrifying. Sigh. I'm not sure I want to watch anymore but my girls are on there and I kinda have to see how they fare. :-/

You know I read Battle royale before I read Hunger games actually I saw the movie first and while I do see similarities (kind of hard not to) I tend to agree with the idea that Suzanne could have come up with it on her own. I do personally prefer Battle royale but it has more to do with the fact that I adore the movie and I did see it first.

I hope you enjoy the book (well enjoy might not be the right word.)

Yeah, I don't think it's that crazy of an idea that she came up with it on her own, since both are really based on the gladiators. And like I said, once you have that premise, a lot of the similarities that people like to cite really follow quite naturally.

And I know what you mean about the whole "it was first!" thing. I think I would have preferred The Hunger Games just because of certain things that it addresses, but I've definitely had that feeling with other media.

Yeah, I mean authors do it all the time. I've read books that have the same sort of idea but are still different. The idea is very similar but the way it's executed is completely different. Battle Royale was more about all the students, and the friendships and how that all fell apart. Hunger games is mroe about the society and fighting against it. You're right if you come up with an idea than some ways the story goes (the similarities) are quite normal.

yeah, I first saw the battle royale movie and it's still my favorite movie. I like the hunger games, a lot, but I just prefer Battle Royale. But I think they're both great, and I really think the whole debate is kind of stupid. I mean they're both good, why can't we just like both.
