Hello, and thanks for agreeing to write for me! I'm excited about this exchange, and excited to see what you come up with.
I don't have that many canons (sorry about that!), but hopefully you're able to find something. My general likes and dislikes: I love plot, fluff, and angst. I'm pretty easy in that regard. I adore canon-divergent AUs (the "what ifs"), but am not so big on the alternate setting AUS, like high school AUs. I love crossovers, but am not into a lot of the big fandoms. In terms of background pairings, 99% of the time I am fine with the canon ships. I love friendships and character interactions and ensembles, so if those things show up I'm happy. I'm perfectly happy with How they Got Togethers, Slice of Life, Adventures, whatever.
I'm not much for porn- I don't mind explicit fic for the most part (except in underage pairings, where PLEASE NO), but I don't hate it, either. I'm not much into kink, so if you are writing porn, vanilla is your best bet. I love good partnerships in ships- most of my favorites tend to be pairings that would work well together, or at least would like each other. And I love banter and action. I am fairly squicked by infidelity, and polyamory doesn't often work well for me. If one of the characters has/had a significant other, I'm perfectly happy with "eh, it just didn't work out" as an explanation for why they're no longer together ;) I do not mind rape as long as it is not happening between the pairing or as long as the rapist makes sense. (Example: If you were to write it in a BSG pairing, I can't ever imagine Adama or even Zarek raping someone, but the Sunshine Boys from the Pegasus or Cylons during New Caprica? Not a problem.
So onward and thoughts and prompts.
Battlestar Galactica. Richard Hatch made a comment about BSG being about a bunch of good people who've lost their way, and I think that sums it up so well. I love the darkness and grittiness of BSG, but also the hope that it has in it. I love all of the characters, but I have always loved fic more for the minor characters whose stories we didn't see.
Brendan Costanza/Cally Henderson. I didn't like the execution of this pairing in canon, but when I think about it, it's got the potential to be really sweet. Hot Dog is a doof and lives with his foot in his mouth, but he's a good guy overall, and Cally is just great. She's strong and honest and a survivor. What I'd really love is an AU where Cally lived, and they got together after she divorced Galen. Or where she got together with Hot Dog instead of Galen, and maybe how that went, especially if Cally stayed on the Galactica or Brendan went down to New Caprica.
Felix Gaeta/Louis Hoshi. They are my OTP, and I would be delighted for anything about them (and in this case, including porn, although I see the two of them being pretty non-kinky and kind of dorks in bed.) How they Got together, how they dealt with Felix's amputation, conversations along the way, explorations of Felix's drug addiction and Louis's enabling... anything canon-compatible is great. So is AU- what if they got married before New Caprica? What if Louis went on the Demetrius? What if Louis mutinied instead of Felix, or with him? I do tend to think that even if they hadn't said it, they really did love each other, and I'm all about happy endings. (But fine with the ending we got, too :) ) I do think it's canon that Felix was in love with Baltar, and near canon that they at least fooled around once (Baltar refuse a blow job? Pretty sure that's against his religion, especially since he made up his own.) But it also ended in glorious flames of ruin, so.... what I truly love about this pairing is they both come from horrible heartbreaks- Felix and New Caprica and Louis and the Pegasus, and they find a second chance with each other. Which is a lot of extrapolating for a pairing that got all of three minutes in canon, but hey, that's what fanfic is for.
Felix Gaeta/Tom Zarek. They have so much in common, and they were on New Caprica together. I love the idea of them getting together sometimes on New Caprica, or since then. I love the guilt that must be between them given that Tom essentially ordered Felix's death, and would love to see something based on that. With this pairing, I'm pretty happy with their canon end, but also completely and utterly open to seeing something else. They're a weird pairing in that I don't see them being nearly as healthy as Gaeta/Hoshi, but I also don't see them being nearly as terrible for each other as Gaeta/Baltar. Sort of a mixed bag, where they totally have their issues (and maybe some of it comes out in sex- this is probably the pair I can handle the most kink for, although I'm still extremely vanilla, and "kink" tends to be light bondage, consensual violence in sex, roleplaying... things that do not require special equipment). I definitely also see a power imbalance here, with Zarek having more power than Gaeta (and I definitely prefer it that way.) I would ask if you go with this pairing, please just keep Hoshi out of it, since the one thing I really can't handle is Felix cheating. It's not like there's much canon to work around anyway :)
Anastasia Dualla/Noel "Narcho" Allison. Truth, I'm not that into Narcho. We don't know much about him. Kara hates him, but she would dislike anyone she disagreed with in the flight room. He can definitely be an insensitive jerk. But at the same time, Lee likes him well enough, so I doubt he's Sunshine Boys level of disgusting. But I love Dee, and she deserves a good time with a hot guy, and Sebastian Spence is incredibly hot. AU is awesome, canon-compatible is awesome, I just want to see Dee get laid by someone who could appreciate her. And she was his XO on the Pegasus for a while, which could lead to some interesting interactions.
Hunger Games. I haven't gotten too deep into the Hunger Games fandom, but I do love the source material. Again, so many good people pressed into horrible situations. It's like crack to me. Again, I like the few canon pairings we see, but I also love minor stories and canon-divergent what-ifs.
Beetee/Wiress I didn't much ship this in the book, but the actors in the movie completely and utterly sold me. Not necessarily a love for the ages or even something that would end in marriage, but something comfortable and comforting and as a way to deal with their shared trauma. I think here I'm more interested in filling in what could be canon compliant than going too AU, but if you have an idea, feel free to run with it :)
Cinna/Finnick I'm not sure why this ship appeals to me, but it does. Again, I like the idea of comfort, especially if Cinna has any idea of what Finnick is going through. Or even if Cinna hired Finnick, thinking that Finnick was a willing prostitute, and then somehow figured out what was really going on. Or if they came across each other on the Hunger Games scene (especially if this is just before Annie, when they were younger) and got together for a bit, and really seeing Finnick's life is part of what made Cinna move from opposing the games to actively dismantling them. I guess I'd definitely like younger Finnick/Cinna, but not so much younger that Finnick is below 18. (Although if you put Cinna near his age, that's less of an issue.) Also, I love Lenny Kravitz as Cinna. I know it's not book canon, but his Cinna really works for me.
Haymitch Abernathy/Mags Okay, so this began as a joke, but as I got thinking about it I really, really liked it. Haymitch doesn't exactly have much to help him in being a mentor, and at least in the movies (I forget about the book), he seems to have a real fondness for Mags. I love the idea that maybe she helped him out a little, and that they formed a sort of relationship there. Again, nothing too deep or forever, because Haymitch would never risk that, but definitely something comfort and again, a response to trauma. (That seems to be a popular theme with the Hunger Games for me.)
Primrose Everdeen/Gale Hawthorne: AU PLEASE. Something where she lives and this happens when she is older. Which opens up a lot of interesting questions. What happened that Prim lives? Was the final attack changed? Was Prim not in it? How did that affect how Katniss felt about Gale? (not romantically.) Did something change in Gale that that attack was changed? One thing I've always thought about Katniss is that she wasn't really choosing between Peeta and Gale, but a life of healing and quiet and a life of fighting and changing the world. They represent two very different choices for her. So what would that mean for Prim if Gale is still fighting, still changing the world? Did Katniss even survive the Hunger Games, or did someone else win? I just think there's a lot of interesting stuff that could be present there.
Primrose Everdeen/Rue. I wrote this pairing last year, and it was really interesting. Again, AU. I don't care so much about their ages, as long as their physical interaction goes well. (I don't mind seeing 13 year olds kiss, for example, but I really do not want to read about them having sex. If Prim and Rue are in their 20s, I don't mind it so much.) But Prim and Rue seem like if they met, they'd get along and really be good friends. They're both good souls, and I think of all the pairings, this one is the one that could end in a true romantic love. But whatever AU could make this happen, I would be interested in reading it.
Crossover Ships: Anastasia Dualla (BSG) and Charlie Young (The West Wing)
So this goes back to my Dee deserves happiness thing. Charlie is everything Dee loves about both Billy and Lee, and I think Charlie could easily love her back once he got over Zoe. There are at least two ways I could see this scenario working out- the Galactica finds our Earth, and obviously they'd be dealing a lot with the government, or a fusion situation where Charlie is somehow in the Fleet. Mainly I just think they'd be adorable together.
Avatar: the Last Airbender
Zuko/Jet. See notes on Zarek/Gaeta? :) Again, not terribly interested in a lot of explicit stuff, and definitely not interested in a happy ever after. I LOVE Zuko/Mai. But as a strange mid-game relationship that goes down in flames? YES PLEASE :) There's so much to be messed up there, and so many things they have in common.... I wish I had brilliant ideas for specific prompts, but I suppose that's part of why I never wrote them myself in the first place. But definitely that time in Ba Sing Se would be fantastic.
I hope this all helps, and if you need more info, I'm happy to provide. Thanks again for writing for me, and I look forward to seeing your work!! :)
