Crossovers!!!!!
So Crossovering went live today, and I got some awesome fics, some of which might be of interest to all of three of us (
puszysty,
kappamaki33, I'm looking at you two), and some of which many more people would be interested in, but they are ALL awesome.
So first up! My actual gift
Take These Broken Wings (And Learn to Fly). BSG/Glee, After their arrival on Earth, Gaeta and Hoshi settle down as teachers in small-town Ohio, where Gaeta is surprised to find himself giving relationship advice to one of the students at Dalton Academy., rated T. Which is only a fic I have wanted FOREVER. And it did not remotely disappoint. It's a happy ending for Felix and Louis but with a dose of bittersweet (and Dee is alive- yay!), where they land on our Earth and end up teaching at Dalton. It's a lovely fic and has realistic interaction between Blaine and Felix, but really focuses more on Felix and Louis. (Which is what I'm personally more interested in anyway- it's completely tailored to my taste and awesome.) Such a lovely, lovely, lovely gift.
I also got two treats!
Boilt Water, a Firefly/A:tLA ficlet where Iroh and Mal share a cup of tea, and
The Truth Will Make You a Rebel, a Firefly/West Wing fusion where the WW group works for the Alliance and CJ's just found out about Miranda. And it's Danny and CJ :) Both ficlets are spot on with the voices, and are wonderful.
So it was a very, very good Crossovering for me. I wish the fic I wrote was more to my liking, and I wish I'd pulled off my original idea, but hopefully my recipient will like it all the same.
Got the after school job (Yay!), and it pays pretty decently for the amount you work, but it's also not exactly a lot of work. But it IS 2014 experience on my resume, and might make that whole teaching idea easier, and will be something until I can get a full-time job. If nothing else, my kids can go for free, so that saves me a good bit of money right there. I also came home that day to find a message from a scientific placement service, but the job they were looking at me for was 44 miles away (and down the Schuylkill, which is always a bad idea), and required weekend work. (The job description also talked about being on call for overtime.) I might be able to hack that for a few months, but it was not desirable. (Especially since I put my application in in response to a job description that was five miles away.) So, we'll see what happens.
Feel like I have done nothing but spend money the past few days. We've been getting back to school stuff. I went the other day and filled out most of it, then had to go to Staples today. I ended up loading up on crayons, markers, and some other stuff I need for Cub Scouts for dirt cheap. I did finally find Toby a lunch box (every time we went in, the only ones left were obviously aimed at the preschool set or very, very pink, which is not his taste at all.). It just feels like it's been non-stop. And I still have to pay for the kids' swim lessons, once I get them signed up. Fall is going to be crazy busy for us, with soccer practices and Cub Scouts and Science Explorers and swim lessons. Eek.
Anyway, off to read more stories, or go to bed soon, so I can get up and run tomorrow morning before we go to the Ren Faire. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
