I'm loving YFL of course. I'm still trying to piece together spoilers and spec about the Gaeta-Zarek connection in 4.5. I'm certain now that there is gonna be a BIG backlash against the cylon alliance. Zarek will be leading it and will bring Gaeta onto his side. Willingly or unwillingly? Gaeta has his grudges for sure, but why would he join Zarek, the man who signed his death warrant? But then, AJ has said the 'secret' is being brought back. If Zarek knows the secret then maybe that will give him a hold over Gaeta. Mind you, Trucco has also said that there will be consequences for Anders shooting Gaeta in the leg, so maybe there is a bit of a revenge story.
If it's true that Zarek seizes the Presidency in 4.5 I think Gaeta will be his Chief of Staff. It's occurred to me that Gaeta and Zarek are the only significant characters who aren't in the final Earth tableau. Maybe the reason is they are still up in the Colonial One and the Galactica? But whatever happens I think given the trailer dialogue, Gaeta is gonna have second thoughts when Zarek starts threatening to kill people. Like AJ says Gaeta will be in a dark place trying to hold onto his moral core. Hmn. Any other ideas?
Congratulations to Toby!

I am so with you on your ideas for Gaeta and Zarek in 4.5. What I would add:
We don't have much in terms of what their relationship is. Okay- we've got nothing in canon. But I like the idea that Gaeta starts down this path willingly, because it's a LITTLE less angsty. Otherwise, the poor guy would be jumping out an airlock.
I was reading an interview with Richard Hatch, and it was (naturally) VERY sympathetic towards Zarek, pointing out that Zarek has been shoved out of his rightful position not once but TWICE by Adama and Roslin, and really for no good reason. Yes, he's done some terrorist stuff in the past, but according to Hatch, he's come to see that that's not effective and he needs to proceed without major violence (the epiphany came in Kobol's Last Gleaming, not in jail ;) ). And I can see where he could make that very compelling argument to Gaeta, who is a total stickler for the rules. Add to that that no one seems to be getting in trouble for him losing his leg and other various overlooks and semi-insults, and I can see where he'd side against Adama and Roslin.
My guess is that Gaeta will start willingly, and then when they hit the murder dialogue from the trailer that's when Tom will pull out the secret. (I'd had the same idea, and when I write Tom finding it out in YFL it will hopefully reflect that ;) )
On reflection (and very much hopeful), I have a feeling that the "good things" thing in the second episode is going to be Zarek recruiting Gaeta (good or bad). I can totally see why AJ would say that would be fun to shoot, and it fits in with the bits about him eventually hitting a very dark place, and neither of us have been taking "Good things" at face value anyway :)
I noticed that, too, that neither of them are on Earth's surface. Dee gets to go, but Gaeta doesn't? (The other thought I've had is that one of the two of them is going to end up being the dying leader. I mean, Gaeta has been plotting all the jumps, right? He's the one sort of leading them?) ) I'm also worried that Mr. I-like-to-draw-real-world-parallels-and-make-everyone-uncomfortable Ron Moore will decide to cast the pair of them as airline pilots and crash Colonial One into a basestar or something, blowing up their ship and destroying a lot of Cylons. I would not put it past him.
January 16 NOW please!!!!!

I wonder how the 'intense' scene with Baltar fits in. I can imagine either that Baltar might be the human-cylon relations diplomat who tries to talk Gaeta out of whatever Zarek is planning. I also fear Zarek will go out in a blaze of glory taking a cylon basestar with him (maybe the Cavil/Boomer gang?). I hope Gaeta doesn't perish too, but I fear he will. My sappy dream would be Baltar saving Gaeta's life. I also hope Boomer survives and gets back together with Chief. I wasn't a huge fan of their ship, but Chief needs the love!

I'm wondering if they're going to change what the secret was. I mean, unless you listen to the podcasts/commentaries, you have no idea of what it is. So they could change it from the Saggitaron thing, which I wonder how well would hold up. I mean, come on, Baltar. Gaeta obviously isn't crazy about Saggitarons, but he also obviously doesn't blindly hate them, given his friendship with Dee. Did he really think anyone would believe that, especially since they already blindly once believed the worst and nearly killed an innocent man? (Although Baltar doesn't know about that part.)

I totally agree. I can see Baltar being all concerned for Felix's soul, and Felix turning his back on him. I do suspect it's going to be something like that, and I'm hoping very much for an admission from someone- anyone- that Gaeta once loved Baltar in that scene. But I like the idea- and it seems very BSG that the one time Baltar's right and truly trying to save Felix is the one time Felix doesn't listen.
My sappy dream would be Baltar saving Gaeta's life.
I'd like this too, just because I'd like Gaeta to live. But I'm a big fan of the "everyone but Baltar dies" type of theory. (Baltar can't die. He's a cockroach.)
And Chief does need the love. Hey! How about Chief/Dee? :) I like it. I like it a lot. :)

Oh, let the secret be related to Baltar sex/love. Pretty please. We wants it, precious. Admittedly I like the everyone dies but Baltar theory too. *Sigh* Baltar better pin up Gaeta's picture at least.

I'm honestly, truly wondering what else Baltar could have on Gaeta that the audience will believe. Gaeta's being painted as very similar to Helo- he's a good guy who tries to do the right thing. Male lover certainly isn't going to be anything to get worked up about. Cylon lover- even that can be forgiven- look at Helo, Tigh... and besides, Gaeta could turn right back around and say, "um, hi? Caprica Six?" Anything illegal or immoral... maybe? Maybe Gaeta cut some deals with people and Baltar caught him? But given that Zarek is still in power and Roslin faked Hera's death and Adama instigated the Cylon war and Felix isn't even a civilian anymore- who would care? I know the lever really has to be does Gaeta feel uncomfortable over it, and not would any of the crew believe it, but... Baltar sex works better than anything I can come up with.
And I don't mind Gaeta dying as long as someone mourns him. I figure it would be Dee, Helo, or Baltar, with Dee or Baltar being the strongest two contenders. And if we're right about Baltar trying to save him from Zarek and Gaeta dying with Zarek, I'd bet it would be Baltar.

I don't think it's so much that the secret could get Gaeta into trouble. If the secret IS the male lover thing I think it'd be more a case of him not wanting his broken heart exposed to the entire crew. At the time of 'Taking a Break' Baltar was the most hated man alive. What distain would Felix suffer if it was known he was his lover on New Caprica? It's not something he'd be arrested for, but he's already had to suffer so much scorn from his crewmates just for "hidding behind Baltar's skirt". If it's true, I can see why Felix wouldn't want anyone to know.
BTW - did you get that email with my betaing question? I still haven't figured anything out yet...

Yeah. I can see why he'd make something up- I just can't see how he'd ever get Adama to believe it. Especially coming from him.

Very much agree. I've seen people question if Gaeta was going to come out of the closet, and as far as on the ship, I don't think he's in it. It fits the character that Gaeta just doesn't talk about his private life because it's private. (It's another reason I think they could successfully out him. I'd believe that a few people on the ship actually know that he's gay, and everyone else just doesn't think about it or talk about it because they don't think about Gaeta as anything other than tactical officer or DRADIS contact guy, and they just don't really care.) But yeah, it wouldn't be that he'd had a male lover, it would be that he'd been Baltar's lover. Especially if any sex happened after the occupation began.
My theory is that if they change it, it's probably something that wouldn't bother most people, but it bothers Felix and that's enough for it to be effective. But when he jumped back after the whisper, there was so much hate and disgust there and it seemed so personal...

Ack! Sorry, I did- I was having a hard time, too. What about a preliminary draft of the contract, not so much that Baltar has to sign it, but there are a few points that need discussion, because Felix wants to smooth the way for the signing to go easily? Or a discussion on what sort of pay can be provided? Or maybe the age kids can start working? (Maybe even broken down by different jobs?)
If I come up with anything else, I'll let you know. :)
