Take me home where we met so many years before
We’ll rock our babies on that very front porch
After all this time, you and I
Nearly a decade later, Callie and Arizona were back where it all started. Both girls had completed medical school and were able to get positions at the same hospital in Seattle to do their residency. Arizona had become one of the youngest attending Pediatric Surgeons in the field when the former attending had become ill and unable to practice anymore. Almost a year later, Callie was named an attending Orthopedic Surgeon of the same hospital. The women were making their dreams come true.
A few months later, both women had settled into their new positions and were enjoying being able to come home at a decent time every night, something that was very uncommon in their residencies. With the newfound job stability, both women finally felt ready and able to make one more of their dreams come true. They were ready to start a family.
After many discussions and meetings with an obstetrician, the pair decided that Arizona would be the first to carry their child and when they were ready Callie would carry the second. So as to feel as if the child was both of theirs, Arizona was going to carry Callie’s biological child and vice versa. Once all the decisions were made, the women began the process of starting their family, and almost six weeks later Arizona was pregnant.
It was Christmas time, and the two were able to take a couple days off to visit their families. It was while they were home in Miami that Arizona told Callie the good news. Both women were brought to tears by the news, and as they lied together in their favorite spot, their childhood tree house, they promised to show their little baby all the important places to them from their childhood home, starting with the tree house.
1 Year Later
It was Christmas time again, Callie and Arizona’s favorite holiday because of what the day brought them a year ago. Once again, because of their position in the hospital and because of the overall fondness their boss had for them, both women had nearly a week off over the holiday to return home to Miami. Only this year they wouldn’t be making the trip alone; this year Lucas Miguel Torres would be making the trip as well.
Arizona had delivered the baby boy nearly three months earlier and was technically still on maternity leave, which made the trip easier on everyone involved. Both women had wanted to take Little Luke back to their childhood home and couldn’t wait to share all of their special memories with him, and make even more with him involved.
The family had been home in Miami for two days now, but between grandparents and aunts and uncles the women barely had any time alone with their little boy. So on Christmas morning the two of them had gotten up early and with their baby boy sat outside rocking on the front porch, watching the sunrise. It was quiet and simple, but it was their first Christmas all together and they couldn’t help but be a little selfish and keep the moment just between the three of them.
Lifting her head from Calliope’s shoulder, Arizona turned her gaze to her wife, “After all of this time, it’s still just you and I. There’s no one else I could have ever imagined doing this with. I love you forever, Calliope Torres.”
***Present Day***
“I don’t remember rocking on the porch swing,” Luke looked disbelievingly at his parents.
“You were just a baby, Lil’ Man. You remember playing in the tree house with me and Momma though, once you got bigger?” Callie asks her son.
“OH Yeah! I love that tree house; it’s awesome! Can we build a tree house here too?” Luke asks his Mom with an excitement he obviously got from Arizona.
Laughing at her son’s excitement, Callie answers just as excitedly, “You know, I bet we could probably do that. I bet Uncle Ig will come help us if you ask him.’
“Yay!” Both Luke and Arizona yell.
