Yesterday was a gorgeous day. I left work intending to take a bike ride, but decided instead to walk so that I could enjoy it (i just really felt like being surrounded by outside for awhile).
So I came home, changed, washed dishes, made dinner (shrimp & veggies + texas toast), stopped by the shop to say "hi," then headed over to Mt. Hope Cemetery.
I'd brought along my iPod, but decided instead to just listen to outside. It was late (7ish) so the sun was starting to sink below the hill... so I did what I call the "huff it" circuit. For those of you that have walked with me, you know what I mean... starting off with that big-ass hill along Mt. Hope at a swift clip. So I walked for a total of about 40 min. Out of curiosity, on one of the flatter (and isolated) stretches of pavement I attempted to reintroduce my body to the concept of running. No marathon stride or anything; but a little bit of jogging; mostly to test out the ankles, shins and knee. The verdict: not quite so awkward. Ankles, fine. Knee, fine. Shins, need more stretching before-hand. Much more stretching.
So... I just may start the couch potato-to-5K program this weekend. And, Mt. Hope is secluded enough that I can get past my self-consciousness a little at a time.
also... stepped on the scale this AM, a day early (Saturdays are my "weigh-in" days.
8 down. 42 to go. *gleeeeeeeee*
