OMG HERPES! LEPER! FOUL! UNCLEAN!
So. I have a cold sore.
In and of itself, not dramatic news. I used to get them pretty regularly, and then for many years they were no more.
I got one last year, in the normal place along the bottom right lip. Got some Abreva, it went away, no big deal.
So I get another one this week. Felt the tingle, said a few choice swear words, applied the Abreva. Later that AM i felt that oh so familiar sting of a split in the right corner of my mouth. So... Abreva under the lip, a little Burt's Bees in the split, and off the work I go.
By the end of the day i've got full-blown blister cluster, in the corner of my mouth. Oh freakin' misery. it started crusting over, and then i'd sit for an extended period of time and it would harden... then i'd try to eat, drink, talk, yawn, or sneeze or something... and it was tear... and would crust over again, building this oh so attractive ball of... crust... on the side of my mouth.
Last night I put a band aid on before bed because i was afraid i'd scratch it in my sleep (I have a tendency to scratch at my neck & face in my sleep). After some online reading i decided it was past the affectiveness window for the Abreva, and started putting Neosporin on it (via QTip) and just let it be. I put another Band-Aid on for awhile because I was so self-conscious... but then decided that looked worse.
So, that brings us to now. It looks like its spreading... moving down along the lip-line almost to where the usual outbreak spot is. It is itchy, and a weird tingling has spread under my nose. I swear the area around my mouth is swollen (a la F/X Werewolf when their snout starts growing)... and... there is an odor. An odor that's telling me the area is infected. An odor that's right under my nose and hits me unexpected and just makes me cringe.
So part of me is freaking out that maybe it isn't a cold sore, maybe it's something else... something worse, something serious, something life-threatening... whatever. Either way, I called the Med Center and scheduled an appt for 4:15. I'm pretty sure it is infected... hell, unless they have a head-cold or allergies kicking in He'll get close enough to my face to tell. I'm figuring on anti-biotics (please?!)... worst case they'll make me get another Tetanus shot *shudder*
In other news... I did the Walk at Home again yesterday and grabbed a quick shower before heading over to Project Night. exhausting, but felt pretty good afterward.
