Yes, I saw Star Trek. It was a thoroughly enjoyable movie once I got over JJ Abrahm's use of lens flares. I know he used them for an effect like 'the future's so bright I gotta wear shades' but it was too much. Every shot had flares. It wasn't like this in the original... or was it?

I mean... they *almost* but not quite had time to design a ship, come up with this 'red matter' and fly to the Romulan homeworld. Why didn't they, oh... I dunno... EVACUATE THE PLANET? Maybe that's just me. So much for Vulcan Logic though, eh?
I got the jettisoning thing, really. Kirk had already managed to be on a ship he wasn't supposed to be on once. It's sort of the reverse of 'Nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.'
Nero was, obviously, a dumbass. Or crazy. Or both.
Now, I DO like the fact that Abrams pretty much went "Canon? We don't need no stinkin' canon! Screw canon!" And gave ST such a fresh new twist, though with nods to the past. I, for one, busted out laughing as soon as I saw Olson's uniform, for example. And when Admiral Archer's dog was mentioned.
We saw it on IMAX. It was the first time I'd been to an official IMAX theater, though I had gone to a movie theater in Seattle that had a larger-than-normal screen for one of the Matrix installments. I must say... Super-super-large HD is just not kind to skin imperfections. Holy pores, Batman!
