evergreen-semi?

I was recently gifted a zelkova bonsai. I have zero bonsai experience but I've been doing as much reading as I can get my hands on. I just have a quick question for now: If the label says "evergreen-semi", do you suppose that means it's been indoor- or outdoor-acclimated? To my understanding, zelkovas are outdoor deciduous trees that should stay outside if they're used to the winter, but may be labeled "evergreen" if they've been indoor-acclimated. I've had it outside all summer, and wondering what to do for the winter. As of now, mid-August, it appears to be nowhere near changing colors for autumn. In fact, many leaves are still just barely budding out. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
