A Gifted Bonsai

I was given a bonsai as a gift from a client. It's a 'green mound juniper' in a very nice little ceramic, wide base with a catch tray of rocks. It's kind of sad on one side but round on the other and has little shafts sticking out from the sides. Below is a slightly blurry slightly dark iphone snapshot of it.



It says it's an outdoor plant so I won't be leaving it here at work but... help? I have a black thumb and I'd like to keep this little tree alive. What should I do to make this tree more beautiful, bigger, etc?
