LiveJournal Redesign

May 16, 2014 19:52

We have launched a new version of LiveJournal which provided many visual and functional changes. The primary changes to the site are:

Site schemes:

Historically, LiveJournal has supported multiple site scheme options for navigation, including: Horizon, Vertigo, Lanzelot, Lynx, X-Colibur, and Dystopia. In the new design, the decision was made to remove these older site schemes provide you a new, lightweight scheme with simplified navigation.

Homepage:

The redesigned homepage does not include significant changes to its functionality, although several widgets have been removed in favor of them appearing on the friends feed (Comments, Events, LiveJournal Today). Settings for the "Top LJ" feature are now in the dropdown menu which appears when you click the gear icon.

Profile:

Information about Interests and V-Gifts now appear in separate tabs, and statistics about a journal have been moved to the right side of the page.

Friends feed:

The friends feed has been updated both visually and to add several new widgets on the right side of your friends feed:

- Calendar Feeds: You can now view your friends feed for a specific date through the calendar on your friends feed.
- Upcoming events: Here you can see notifications about new friends, v-gifts, private messages, and birthdays.
- New comments: Notifications of new comments to entries you have posted in your journal or in communities will appear here.
- New Entries: This displays new updates to journals or communities you have read, but have not subscribed to.
- Guests: The Guests module will show the last 4 LiveJournal users who have visited your journal.
- LiveJournal Today: Here you will see the current top 5 entries from the Ratings feature.

These changes are currently considered to be in Beta testing, and you still have the ability ability to return to the previous design during this Beta phase.
