Yay! This has needed fixing for so longfiddlingfrogApril 3 2015, 10:51:53 UTC
First of all, thanks for looking at the inbox - it's currently an unworkable mess that I avoid as much as I can. Some of these ideas have been mentioned already, but to add my two cents: 1) Specific date and time. I really dislike the vague relative times, but at least on comments you can expand them to see the real date. 2) Toolbar for HTML. Awesome idea, a toolbar is a great way to show what code is allowed and what is forbidden in PMs. 3) A better message/ notification counter. Show read vs total in every folder, and give a total count of all messages at the bottom. I've lost count of the number of people who didn't know about or understand the 2,000 message limit and subsequently thought their inbox was broken. 4) Some way of indicating the other methods that were used to deliver that message (e-mail, IM, or LJ alerts.) 5) Threading would be neat, but I'd prefer it if it worked like it does in my e-mail client - individual messages show up in folders in flat chronological order, but if I open a message in a new tab it shows that message and all replies & forwards in a threaded view. 6) Search. Basic search options should include text, date or date range, author or community, and event type (PM, entry or comment tracking notifications, pingbacks, etc...) 7) Better integration of inbox settings and subscription management with the actual inbox. I'm not sure what this would look like, but at the very least the option to cancel a notification directly from the inbox.

So, like a 2/100 type of label, you mean? First number is unread, second is total messages contained?
Yup. And this may not be a popular idea, but I think that the "All" section should be all messages, even including suspicious. That way when someone maxes out their inbox it would say something like (1923/2000) and not (1923/1978). And with that change the "All" listing should no longer be the default view when you visit the inbox.
