One of the best kept secrets about the LiveJournal community is how incredibly generous you all are. It's not just the fact that so many of you volunteer to help LJ out, or are such active participants in communities online. It's what you do to support communities offline that makes us so proud of what LJ is. (A recent example was the way you all ( Read more... )

Good job, LJ & SA. :) There's no pleasing the asshats who are determined to jump into every post, no matter what the content, and say "HAI JUST WANTED 2 REMIND U THAT U GUYZ ARE TEH SUXXORZ!!! LOLLERSKATES!"

To said asshats: get a friggin life.

Ohnoez, we're not happy about something and prefer to voice that rather than be stuck with suppressed annoyance. We must not have anything else to do. Ever.

Plz to be taking your high horse elsewhere.

Agreed. 6A has reaped what it's sown, and it will take more than us making a charity donation in their name ('cause you're paying for $30 donation in 6A's name; you're only choosing where it's going) to make us believe anything else.

I /still/ have been backing up my entries into all the available formats just in case MY journal gets deleted. Yeah, I have that little trust in 6A and what it apparently stands for.

No, they're GIVING you $30 to donate to the charity. You are not spending a dime.

Even worse. They're using the money that I pay towards my Paid Account, what all international users IN THE WORLD (as in OUTSIDE TEH US OMGZZZ) use for their paid, permanents, add-ons, virtual gifts etc, to use as funding for charitable donations in their name, which aren't even going to effect people in my own country?

That's just wrong. I'm one of these people that like to see what their donation has done. And I doubt I can make an eight hour flight on a whim.

Sseriously dude, stop typing before you look like even more of an asshat. If you can't do something as simple as donating to a charity without having a whole bunch of quid-pro-quos attached, then fine - no-one's forcing you to donate. But don't come here and start bitching and whining that LJ have fucked up because they're not doing things YOUR way. They're getting their ample userbase involved in donating to a good cause. Why don't YOU go and try and do something equally helpful for the world rather than sitting on your high-horse and bitching about all your little pet-peeves. Because seriously, no-one gives a shit.

"This is great... but you guys aren't forgetting about the other stuff, are you?"

is a lot different from the other guy's:

"That's just wrong."

LJ holding back on any going ahead of charity-related offers, and bringing everything to a grinding halt just because a handful of users are really angry about something, would be "wrong" in my opinion. I wouldn't want to be a member of a weak-willed service like that.

Seriously - it's like people who post on the entries about new technical upgrades going "oh, so this is what you've been working on, instead of our problems", seemingly failing to realise that it's the work of an entirely different department, who have nothing to do with any such grievances ( ... )

1. You've all had multiple opportunities to express your disdain for 6A. I'm sure you'll have plenty more. It's silly to jump on EVERY post with another conspiracy theory. Believe it or not, not every single decision is made with the intent of pissing you off.

2. This post had NOTHING to do with your issues. It's about taking $30 of 6A's money and putting it to good use.

3. The point has been beaten into the ground. Your merry band of protestors are the laughing stock of the LJ world now. If you're that miserable, find another service and move on. It's just pathetic now.

1. And we've had no answers whatsoever. Stopping would mean they win.

2. My issue is the absolute lack of attention for non-U.S.-based users. How is that not relevant?

3. Only for those glued to the saddle of their high horse.

No matter how much you bitch, they're always going to have "won". You're still here, earning them money, whether it's through a paid account or through ad revenue. No matter how pissed off you may be about it, your money isn't where your mouth is-you're still here! LJ is still making money off of you! They've already won and you're just too stupid to admit it.

Or maybe it's because there's only one side that thinks this is a contest/battle/air hockey tournament.

I WILL NEVAR GIVE UP! I will stomp my foot and throw temper tantrums while LJ rolls their eyes at me and cashes the ad revenue checks from Google!

I'd like to see a fandom vs. lj air hockey tournament, or perhaps a ping pong deathmatch.
