LJ holding back on any going ahead of charity-related offers, and bringing everything to a grinding halt just because a handful of users are really angry about something, would be "wrong" in my opinion. I wouldn't want to be a member of a weak-willed service like that.
Seriously - it's like people who post on the entries about new technical upgrades going "oh, so this is what you've been working on, instead of our problems", seemingly failing to realise that it's the work of an entirely different department, who have nothing to do with any such grievances.
But back to the charity stuff - seriously, dude - if you don't feel comfortable donating to charity because it's an OMG DIVERSION TACTIC, that's cool - no-one's forcing you to. But that's your own problem - don't project that onto LJ as a failing of theirs. No-one is thinking that you to suddenly cheer up and forget all your problems because of it - for once, this isn't about you. It's a charity - for children. Whichever side of the fence we fall on, can't we all agree that this is A Good Thing.
