ETA: I'm also having some weird things going on - I can only see the userpic in the hover menu for some people and not for others. In addition, on my friends' page, all the entries are showing up with the poster's default userpic (or what I assume is their default userpic, since there's no longer any easy way to go to their profile to check...) rather than the one they used, even though it shows up correctly when I go to the actual community or journal.

This is happening for me too.
ETA: you can view someone's journal by clicking on their name. And someone's profile by clicking on the user icon.

Then you should have just turned the hover-over off, because as the prev. commenter said, the userhead leads to the profile and the username leads to the journal (or comm; both apply to both). This has been around as long as I have known about lj?

That sounds like an excellent idea, I surely don't need it. But - where CAN I turn it off? Do you happen to know off hand?

ETA: Right, it's this one: What is the Hover Menu? How do I enable or disable it?

Edit: Meh, the FAQ is empty, it probably once was there. :( I'll poke around some more later.

Anyways, here's what is says:What is the Hover Menu? How do I enable or disable it?
The Hover Menu appears when you hover your mouse pointer over an account type icon (, , or the custom userhead) or a user's userpic. The menu contains links to view the journal, community, syndicated feed, or its profile, as well as the options below. You can enable or disable the Hover Menu by using the following commands in the Admin Console:
To enable: set opt_ctxpopup Y
To disable: set opt_ctxpopup N
Hope that helps!
