Erasure is harder than it looks
When I try to erase the fic I'm working on, I get really worried that I won't be able to keep the music in the piece. It's like chipping away at fine marble. You need to find the secret lead that runs through the entire block and make sure that stays recognizable. I'm not actually deleting words; I'm only whiting them out, but it still worries me that I might get rid of a crucial word. So I take it slow and feel my way along until I can discover the form that lies below.
