"it's for your vagina, but it's a light saber"

Although I've never read a single one of his comics, I hear Alex Toth died at the drawing table over the weekend. I can only hope someday that I too can have such a respectable death.

Saturday was my comic book release party, that was also Joe Flood's birthday party and denito's Chili con Carnage party. When Zane and I arrived early at 9:30ish and surprisingly, bertozzi was there, with his wife (Amy I think?) and his adorable little daughter (Sabina I think? I'm so bad with names). Sabina is like four years old and wears glasses, which is just about the cutest thing ever. I started wearing glasses when I was five and I rarely ever see a kid that small wearing glasses.

It's so annoying to have glasses when you're that young because you just spend half your time breaking or losing them until you're old enough for contacts. And then there's those times you have to take them off, like to go in the water at the beach or in the pool, and then you can't really see anything that your friends are doing and it's pretty irritating. One time, when I was eleven, my family went to beach and I had left my glasses with my mom while she sunbathed. I was wearing a totally uncharacteristic bikini and there was a boy about my age sitting on a towel nearby and my whole family was making a big, embarrassing deal about how he kept looking at me. I got excited about a boy liking me but didn't want to put my glasses back on, for fear that he would no longer like me. However, my eyesight was so bad I couldn't even see him to try and like, smile at him or something. Or even just to see what he looked like. It was very irritating, especially with my whole family egging me on about it.

Anyway, back to the party. leopard_lady got there at the same time as us, so she was there early too. The Bertozzi clan left pretty early, but just a few minutes later the doorbell rang! We joked that the party had finally arrived. But it wasn't even a joke, because in rolled the Ex-Forbidden Planet clan (Pete, Ella, Luis, Joe Hughes, elfalcon and um... I think I'm forgetting somebody else) along with emodudley. Also aregularmess, malaisia, and fortninety came, so pretty much most of my friends showed up. Unfortunately for Dennis and Joe Flood, almost none of their friends showed up. Okay, maybe two of Dennis' friends showed, but none of Joe's! ON HIS BIRTHDAY!! How fucked up is that?

We bought this crazy ice cream cake for Joe Flood and some 69 candles (actually they only had 9's but 69 is funnier than 99). The cake had vanilla, chocolate AND strawberry ice cream in it, AND was surrounded by four ice cream cones filled with MORE ice cream and piles of whipped cream. We were going to write "Fuck 9/11 and Fuck You" on it, as per an inside joke we had, but we couldn't find any of that stuff to write on cakes with. The cake was tasty as hell nonetheless and Joe Flood seemed happy we got it for him. After midnight,it was also Joe Hughes' birthday, so it was like Night of the Joe's Birthdays.

It was awesome to see all the ex-FP-ers, since none of us work there anymore, I never get to see them. I was amazed that Zane was the only one in the room still working at FP, and even then, he's supposed to be quitting in a few weeks to start learning his dad's business full-time. It kind of sucks because he really loves working at FP, but it just doesn't pay enough, and the longer he stays working part-time at FP and part-time with his dad, the longer it'll take before he starts learning his dad's business full-time. So yeah.

This party was way tamer than the last one, being that all but two of Joe and Dennis's friends showed up, but it was still very fun. It was mostly a sitting-around-talking-about-comics-and-movies kind of a party, which Zane was thankful for, since he hates "crazy parties". There was still some dancing, as Joe, Dennis and I couldn't resist jumping around to some Andrew WK, even though everyone else just kind of sat there staring at us. Towards the end, a bunch of people got really crazy dancing to some song sung by Shatner that is apparently also on constant rotation at FP, but I had never heard it before so I couldn't really join in.

I traded Joe Flood one of my MBH shirts for one of his Bill, Cricket and Frankie shirts. Also Joe Hughes bought one of my MBH shirts and some comics, and Nadezhda also bought all the comics and some buttons. AND, Pete brought over a small stack of the MBH patches, and promised more were on the way. Huzzah for merchandise and people buying it for full price even though I kept trying to give them discounts!

The party ended on a hilarious note, as Zane discussed his business plan for a light saber vibrator and why it will be so popular. This spawned many an additional idea for various Star Wars themed sex toys, and that was pretty hilarious to listen to, even though I am totally not a Star Wars nerd. Robin wins the night's best quote for this entry's subject line, which is also the tagline for Zane's imaginary business venture. Of course, we'll have to change it to like, "light related weapon" or "weapon saber" or something, for copyright reasons.
